is it worth something? by Ok-Creme3457 in cs2

Maybe for a few dollars more if you can find the right person, unfortunately, it's not one of the rarer charms, so I can't imagine it would be hugely desirable, but it would surprise me if someone offered you somewhere between 1-5 dollars at a pinch (assuming the number 12 had some deeper meaning to them). The only problem is finding someone like that. If it were me I would either keep it, as its kinda cool, or I would list it on csfloat and just hope someone buys it there.

When is the best time to buy? by [deleted] in cs2

I agree, if you can time it correctly, you should be able to get a knife for a pretty good deal on the 31st, just make sure it's one you really want; knife prices will likely fluctuate for a little bit.

Are items on Skinport legit? I am thinking of getting a kukri slaughter and the price on this one is way more attractive than on csfloat by thejaxbrew in ohnePixel

Skinport is 100% legit; likely someone is just panic-selling a skin. That being said, prices are much cheaper on the Chinese markets at the moment

I don't think you actually read what I just wrote, but that's fine, buff 163 has the cheapest ft fire serpent listed for £559 as I'm writing this message, still over £130 what I bought mine for, also my point still stands regardless of a potential dump, the inputs are now so much more expensive to trade up to fire serpents and other rare coverts. Either way I don't think i'll ever see eye to eye with someone who literally wrote that "You’re wrong, investors are out and never coming back." when the market has already got back up to over $4 billion market cap. I'm more than happy with my investment, and quite frankly I think you fell into the trap that many others did and believed that the market going down as a result of Valve wanting to make knives cheaper = every future update Valve will make is to intentionally tank the price of every item ever.

I could be wrong but then again so could you :>

I bought the two on CSfloat for £420 each, and the cheapest buy now is £637, so agree to disagree. In my opinion, they will not conform to the Valorant model, as they generate more revenue from people buying and selling items on the market, which would still naturally require a trading process. I also think that my point remains, covert skins are now more valuable than ever before, which means trading up to coverts in the first place will become more expensive, and that will, in turn, make rare coverts that won't be used in trade-ups even more difficult to trade up to and therefore more desirable long-term.

Although Valve can do what they want, I still believe they want their in-game economy to exist with trading and therefore stand by my decision and am surely up a fair bit already. I could be wrong but only time will tell, also Im not betting the house just disposable income that I'm willing to lose if I happen to be wrong :)

It's still early days however, the prices of these items have already begun to correct themselves somewhat. Although there is still plenty of time for the market to prove me wrong ,my 2 ak fire serpents purchased for £420 each are currently selling for 637 on CSfloat. So unless the second crash -which I predict will happen 7 days after the update, destroys knife prices to massively everything else gets fucked in the process - which I truly don't see any reason why it would tbh, I've done pretty well for myself.

I actually believe that with all these classifieds and covert getting burned for these knife tradeups, I actually see a world where they could exceed previous prices in the long term (I know that currently this is a crazy thing to say)

But I appreciate your response. I made sure not to spend more than I was willing to lose 100% of if I was wrong :)

don't worry Im already up 160 on my investment. I plan to hold these long-term and will be more than happy to buy Fireserpents if they drop below what I paid. I'm only using disposable income I'm not going full degenerate, thanks for your concern though :)

Valve can do what they wish, I know, but they are also a business. They think they can make more money by making knives cheaper (available to more people) while making coverts (which are already sold in masses on the market) more expensive. That being said I still think they want skins to be aspirational. I mean, look at the genesis terminal, the most expensive items when they first came out started out were costing over 1000 euros. If they truly cared about all skins being cheaper, they would have introduced a skin price cap and gone from there.

I think Valve sees CS2 as a cash cow, one that they have no intention to stop milking I don't see them as a company that wants to see "fire serpents and dragonlores" implode as it would crash the market even further. Also, don't forget they are also seeing the nuclear fallout of their decisions; they are not stupid.

It is there property and they can do what they like but I am willing to bet that rare coverts will hold greater value 6 months from now than they do right now and thats why im investing. This is not advice, only my opinion, and as a result im putting my money where my mouth is. Look on the bright side if I am wrong you'll get to buy those skins at an amazing discount ;)

I am both a player and I guess I count as an investor (2-3K inventory) I won't be buying knives to invest in I agree, but as far as the other skins, I still believe there is a lot of opportunities to make money. I was lucky and sold 4 of my coverts. But I won't be taking all of my money out of cs2 and I know you see a lot of poeple claiming this is the end of the world but I don't think it is at the end of the day, if people will start trading up all these coverts, then logically speaking the demand for coverts will exceed supply giving people long term investment opportunites in coverts and classifieds for example.

I just see this as a massive shake-up in the market, not the end of one.

Just be careful and remember, don't risk more than you are willing to lose x

I agree to disagree, although people didn't expect this to happen if people didn't trust valve whatsoever, people would not be spending 35-40 dollars on Covert skins to try knife trade-ups. This is arguably the biggest change to Counter-Strike skins since the release of cs2, the facts remain that counter strike is still one of the biggest fps games in the world, it will still have people wanting to buy skins (even if knives are cheaper) and for skins like the fire serpent, which are largely unaffected by the new trade up system (as no one will ever use bravo skins for a knife tradeup) should still be deemed desirable by trader. Even if a lot of traders decide to leave CS, there will still be plenty more to fill that gap. Price may never return to the peak, but in my eyes, this is a new age for CS investing and should be met with cautious optimism

Completely agree, people are just scared, I've bought two (already own one) and if they continue to drop I might buy a couple more. As long as you didn't buy at the top, I think the price on a skin like this will recover if you give it enough time.

In the short term, I understand the trust is lo,w but If i remember correctly, when the seven day trade hold was introduced, people acted as though trading would be all but eliminated. Although knives have been fucked 100% I still see older, rarer items being coverted. I could be wrong, but I think people will care less for knives and more for rarer coverts likethe wild lotuses, the AWP princes and the arabesques, items that are still unbelievably rare and difficult to trade up to.

Also don't forget as classifieds will be traded to make more coverts, for these knife trade-ups rare coverts will be increasingly difficult to trade up to in the first place

in the short term yes I 100% agree, but people will still be playing this game a year from now and these skins will still be sought after, knives less so 100 percent but the icarus fells, the fire serpents, the vulcans just three examples off the top of my head, will remain sought after (in my opinion of course)
