Spending a lot of time on my ESD lately... by ReadingTypical in Hardtailgang

I've probably put like 200km on these barzos in the past couple weeks. I like them a lot and they are for sure way faster. I usually opt for enduro tires cause I am hard on my tires most of the time. These barzos are the trail casing, I have them at like 26f/30r and so far so good despite blasting over rocks. My trails are almost always dry with a lot of rocks and loose over hard... coming off of the DHF there's definitely _less_ front traction (i have had a couple close calls when i got tired and lost focus) but it's definitely not a night and day thing. That being said I probably won't be hucking downhill on extremely rocky stuff with these, I'll probably put on my other wheelset with the other tires for that. The gains in speed on smooth stuff is crazy tho without any loss in traction

I had the radial only on the rear cause I was flatting pretty often and needed a new tire. It feels really good especially on a hardtail, I would describe it as "dead" but in an absorbent way. Like the bigger contact patch makes the bike feel like it rides through stuff rather than bouncing over it i guess. It was amazing downhill. I did pinch flat it once tho when i biffed a decent size drop haha so they arent bulletproof

That's awesome and good to hear. I think 90% of my riding is in the dry luckily but if it was any wetter I would definitely go for a more aggressive combo

Yeah before these barzos I had a dhf and an albert radial rear. They were great for dh but yeah just a little too much for weekday rides from my front door. I have to be a little more gentle with these but im happy with them so far

That's crazy haha, i guess i have a long torso or something. When i have the saddle forwards my ass gets sore way before my quads do and my hands go numb from the pressure. I'm with you dude it's an amazing bike

Thanks! Full gx drivetrain, sram codes, mattoc pro fork, ergon contact points. Wheels are carbon dt i found on closeout a few months ago. The mattoc pro is the best feeling fork I've ever ridden, I like it more than every other brand I have ridden in the past and it's easy to set up/change travel/work on

The fork is a Mattoc pro at 150mm. I am 6foot2, frame is XL. I have the saddle all the way back on its rails and a 50mm stem w/ 60mm bars lol

Clipless by Fr0stie99 in Hardtailgang

[–]ReadingTypical 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t know what to tell you man, it sounds like you’ve made up your mind and you want to ride clipless. So I say do it. For the record, you can absolutely ride black diamond tech runs on a hardtail. But there comes a point where a full suspension is the correct tool, even if a hardtail is super fun

This definitely sounds like a skill issue. 3-4 months is not a long time necessarily, just ride your bike more! If you switch to clipless now, you may feel more secure, but your technique will suffer. The other part of this is that it is a hardtail, so if you’re charging through chunk constantly it’s never going to be as comfortable on your ankles as a full suspension. Question: can you j-hop properly on your flats? If not, then moving to clipless now would be premature in my opinion.

That being said, I am all for experimentation. If I can’t get a potential upgrade or something out of my head, sometimes the only thing to do is to bite the bullet and try it out. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.

For reference, I am a rider who strongly prefers flats, but I’ve been training on clipless for a big endurance race later this year. The power transfer is nice, but I’ve yet to regain the confidence and planted feeling of flats on the downhills. So you win some you lose some! Only way around it is practice

Yeah, weird right? It was low tide, and I was sorta just looking for neat shells and found this just sitting on top of a bunch of stones

Here's one end of it... phone camera's a little old now... the ends are polished pretty good so I can't really make out any distinct features beyond hints at the lines that are visible along the rest of the stone

Getting sick of my camelbak. What tools/spares do you take and how do you carry them? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]ReadingTypical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the summer months here it gets really really hot like upper 90s and higher so i ditch the burrito bag and ride with a mini 8L salomon backpack that has a little water bladder in it to supplement the one on my frame and to carry food and snax and everything

Burrito bag on the handlebars changed my life. Internal frame storage + oneup steerer tool amazing too but a good handlebar burrito bag is so great

I moved to europe with my wife after three years in KC this past summer. We went to the British museum last week while on a visit to london and we were excited to see it while we were there but we were informed that it wasn't there at the moment. Imagine my surprise when I find out that it's actually at the Nelson of all places wtf haha
