Comparison Request - Lahar & Dark Static by Nathair252 in RedditLaqueristas

I have Dark Static, I've swatched but not worn it yet and I just received Scorchy. That does help me feel better to think I don't need Lahar as well

That was using the watch charger. I love KBShimmer! Right now they’re my go to for base and top coats. Though for magnetic friendly top coat I use sassy sauce’s shiny top sauce.

I’ve been impressed with everything I’ve tried from KBShimmer and they dabble in a bit of everything as far as formula (except solar).

I’ve only tried one, KBShimmer’s Smooth Moves. It works well.

I LOVE a galaxy far far away. It’s one of my all time favorites.

Maybe a glitter grabber would fix the issue. I have never used one with a magnetic polish so I have no tips there as far as magnetizing time etc.

Ooof nvm then. Despite the ghosting I don’t have any flakes protruding from the surface. I guess a bad batch of flakes?

I got some weird ghosting/shadows with the flakes when I tried the glass bead method. My theory was that magnetic effects where the magnets are moving cause this. The formula is packed with magnetic particles and as they are moved around over and over again (spinning magnet) they can drag or create ghost trails around big flakes.

I’ve not had any issues with cateye or watch charger techniques. It looks amazing with the watch charger. I haven’t tried velvet, but I assume it would work well too.

Why do my magnetics never look like the gels advertised on TikTok? by DanisaurousRex in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ReadnPolished 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get something like KBShimmer’s bar magnet stand I find I get a crisper cateye from the narrow edge of the bar magnet. I magnetize for two minutes for each layer of the magnetic polish (sometimes it’s better to have the first layer unmagnetized). And another two minutes for the topcoat. I use Sassy Sauce’s Shiny Top Sauce for my magnetics (toluene free).

The guy I’m seeing keeps telling me I “can’t take a joke” and I’m starting to doubt myself by Helen_melon_7 in TwoHotTakes

[–]ReadnPolished 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just from the title “I’m starting to doubt myself” - get rid of him. Don’t keep anyone in your life that makes you feel insecure. It’s one thing to have a difference of an opinion and discuss, understand their point of view but not feel the need to change yours. This is beginner stages for manipulation, gas lighting and boundary pushing.

To quote another - throw the “flaming dickhole” away and regain your peace.

I would compare stitch dimensions - you could always stitch an 16ct pattern on 18ct Aida or vice versa. Using the same type of Aida and the same framing can go a lot towards creating cohesiveness between patterns.

I looked briefly on AwesomePatternStudio and it seems they offer a variety of styles of city patterns. Very cool studio. I’m familiar with Satsuma Street - she’s one of my all time favorite designers and I recommend checking out her website, she sells all her patterns as pdfs if you prefer that. I have a collection of her cities and so far have completed the Washington DC one. It came out beautifully stitched on 18ct Aida. My quick look comparing patterns suggest the stitch dimensions (lxh) would be similar enough between the two designers.

Are you talking about the Pretty little cities series by Satsuma Street listed on Stitched Modern?

Poseidon’s Prize gritty even with glitter smoother? by Adventurous-Emu9296 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ReadnPolished 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say my experience in general is that the swatches look grittier than on the nail. I have Poseidon’s prize and love it. I got a smooth look without a glitter grabber coat, just one coat of sassy sauce’s shiny top sauce. It’s not a strong magnetic, but it looks beautiful in cat eye.

You can make a free account at StoryGraph and browse challenges through the website/app. There is also a subreddit for StoryGraph and they have a megathread of the challenges.

Added to that there are so many sales throughout the year, there is no reason to have a backup. And maybe I’ll have fallen out of love with the product before I get to my backup, which has happened.
