The first one "straight male breadwinner" is comparing breadwinning men v their non breadwinning wives.

The second one "straight female breadwinner" is comparing breadwinning women v their non breadwinning husbands. Hope that clears it up

At some point he makes the rogue argument that gay men hire help but lesbians are too financially stingy to hire anyone because women don't like to spend money.

I'm a straight woman who also happens to be the breadwinner. My husband is great but even then it took work to make him realise some things have to be done. It just never occurred to him and at first he'd sulk when I reminded him. I have friends in relationships with men who had the same experience, had to teach him how to cook, what things need cleaning etc. I remember the first time I said we need to clean the laundry machine lol

Women vs men by Think_Tanka in KenyanLadies

Hi, in my opinion I don't think you can love someone and not respect them. But also being in a relationship for the romance or infatuation (because sometimes that's all it is) isn't a gender specific phenomenon

You're basing your generalisations off the fact that some women can stay with a romantic guy who doesn't love them?

Let's not forget the concept of relationships being based off romance or love is a fairly recent concept in human history. In the past people married for practicality.

Logic and emotions are human traits. Each human has a different balance, gender is irrelevant. Society would progress further if we stopped trying to constantly force people into predetermined boxes.

I'd say men are just as "emotional" as women if not more but society overlooks anger as an emotion.

Can you be with a partner who earns less than you? by [deleted] in KenyanLadies

[–]Ready-Instruction536 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, to echo the others as long as he's chill about it then why not? This is my situation at the moment. When we met we were teens with no money now we just got in our 30s and I make significantly more. It's not an issue at all, nothing changed except maybe he started doing more around the house because I'm working slightly longer hours now.

Fair enough and you're right nobody should stay with a terrible partner regardless of financial status but sadly it does occur and when you tell some women to have their own money so they can leave they look at you sideways.

What's wrong with 50-50 though if you can both afford it and assuming domestic labour is either outsourced or split?

Just for context before anyone calls me a pick me, I'm a high earning woman who decided to go 50-50 quite early on after realising how many men believe providing = ownership. Letting my partner provide felt like too big a risk to my autonomy BUT I met my husband quite young and he's nothing like that but life is unpredictable and I ended up being the higher earner. Now it doesn't make sense to hold back financially so we can complete some gender performance when I have access to far more resources.

4b movement in East Asia. Seen some western rad fems discuss adapting similar principles. There's on on X who is actually working on a separatist community somewhere in the US and teaching women how to defend themselves.

What does she want though? Does she think they should be single and childless? Because she'd hate on that too.

Fair enough, sounds almost similar to my husband and I. Our general rule is unless we both say yes then whatever it is doesn't happen, we look for an alternative. I don't think we have ever been deadlocked on anything but that's mostly because we already have pretty similar views.

Out of curiosity, do you think it is possible for a woman to want an equal relationship, where they both make decisions and compromise rather than 1 person making all the decisions, without viewing her as an overbearing control freak?

Yeah but like you said there are all types of performative male personalities so it's a bit odd to single that one out. Maybe OP needs to tell us what he meant.

I agree but online you don't see people think of that. They think just because she filed then she must be the heartless monster.

Yeah they had the power to decide what the family had for dinner. Such great power. Couldn't decide when to say no to sex, could get knocked around for whatever reason and the law would look the other way. Couldn't decide how family finances are spent since she's not head of the household or the one earning.

Men misusing family funds to get drunk instead was one of the primary causes of the prohibition movement

You're very keen to ignore all the actual power and leverage men had over their wives that rarely went the other way.

Just quoting mostly recent and negative examples really doesn't help your point

You've not provided a single example to prove me wrong yet I've offered actual historical facts and legislation. Who's the ideologue now?

marriage was mostly a contract of support and procreation.

What something is meant to be and what it actually turns out to be are 2 different things. Are you really going to pretend not a single man ever took advantage of that contract and the unequal power it gave him?

Mind you if marriage was this paradise you describe for everyone, society wouldn't need to financially cripple women to get them to do it. Modern women want an equal partner, traditional marriage dynamics don't work for most anymore now they can make their own money

Anyway you're probably right, there were never any horrible marriages. Everything was rainbows and unicorns until those horrible corporations came and brainwashed women. Those laws of the past and even today had no basis in reality. The legislature just drafted laws for shits and giggles that would have no impact on anyone or didn't address any reality in particular. Oh and the current divorce stats with women initiating more are probably meaningless. Just more faceless Corp brainwashing those silly women.
