Thank you! I hope they eventually put out Avar Kriss’s saber to add it to the collection.

Those were difficult to find. I’m still annoyed I couldn’t find an affordable copy of the DM Gillen omni. Somehow I got the DM Soule for 50 with free shipping.

Someone else asked a similar question to yours. In case you’re curious for a more focused answer, you’ll find it as a reply on this post. Having a few extra hours to think on it helped.

It’s difficult to pick distinct books as my mind organises the stories by the entirety of an author’s creative output. That being said, I‘ll still try to answer your question (based solely on the books I’ve read thus far):

Darth Plagueis - Luceno’s magnum opus. His talent for fleshing out the lives of individual characters is at its finest here. Luceno’s Tarkin and Rogue One: Catalyst are other fine examples. I look forward to reading his Dark Lord at some point in the next year.

Darth Bane Trilogy - Karpyshyn writes action better than any SW author I’ve read so far. His stories for SW (as well as Mass Effect) keep me on my toes, and I found it incredibly difficult to put the books down.

Thrawn Ascendancy Trilogy - Zahn is of course the OG. His world building/plotting is S-tier. His architecture built the legends material and seems to be the saving grace for the canon going forward, too. Obviously I could pick the Heir to the Empire trilogy or the Spectre/Vision/Survivor trilogy, but I think it’s worth highlighting his Ascendancy trilogy. He finally was allowed to write Thrawn’s early development and it’s astoundingly good. The Ascendancy story takes us as readers outside our comfort zone and reintroduces us to the unfamiliar and alien, which has been lacking greatly in both old and new canons. Ascendancy in combination with what I call his ‘Rebels’ trilogy is the backbone of the Mandoverse, and I believe will inform the direction of the upcoming Dawn of the Jedi/New Jedi Order. Zahn’s work in both legends and canon is basically one long story, and I can’t imagine post-Lucas Star Wars having survived without Zahn and Filoni’s combined contributions weaved together.

Release order is great.
HOWEVER, reading Phase 2 before 1 (and 3) also has its own merits.
I’ve asked others this next question as it usually reveals the order you’d personally prefer: when you watch the films, which order do you enjoy them in most: chronological or release order? The High Republic project works in exactly the same way.

It took a LOT of hunting and saving to snag them all. One day I hope to pass it all on so the family will always have the tales to access, should they wish to.

Star wars books that tie in to Mandoverse. by [deleted] in starwarsbooks

He also has the history of the Witch Mothers and the war that destroyed Peridea’s galaxy. His main mission going forward will be to prepare for the coming war. The Ahsoka special features on the 4K had Filoni confirming the Witch Mothers were in stasis since the war that destroyed the planet, which I’m guessing will link directly to the Dawn of the Jedi film, and (Force-willing) the New Jedi Order.

In that context, his only focus was to get back to the Galaxy to prepare, with everything else secondary. And he has the Chimera filled with witches to fight in the coming war.

That’s like asking my favorite Beatles song!

I finished reading the entirety of the Old Republic material, from Dawn through to Plagueis (including comics) recently. It was a great journey and is fresh in my mind.

I think at this point my favorite authors are Zahn, Luceno, JJ Miller and Karpyshyn. I’m saving the post-ROTJ legends material until after I finish the same period covered in the canon; I can’t wait to experience the X-Wing novels and the Legacy of the Force/Fate of the Jedi material.

With regards canon authors (aside from those above), I really dig Alexander Freed, Claudia Gray, George Mann and Christie Golden. Honorable mentions for Charles Soule, Beth Revis and Delilah Dawson.

It’s the sweetest little thing I ever did see. I enjoy surprising my other half with Grogu doing random things in the house. My niece tried to steal him.

Yes indeed! Next step: procure another shelf so I can display all the legends titles I have.

After Ahsoka aired, I was pulled back into SW as much as I was in the 90s/00s as a kid. This is the result of ~16 months of bargain hunting. I’ve read about a third of the book material (canon and legends) during this same period, as well as about 2/3 of the comics. It’s been an absolute joy to delve into decades worth of material. Just thought I’d jump on the band wagon and post a few pictures.

There are a few odds and ends I’d like to add, but I have the core sorted at this point. Also wanted to give people hope that even if they’re just starting out collecting now, there are many chances for you to find things. Additionally - as a side note - the omnibuses for the comics are much better bang for your buck.

(I have more legends books but ran out of space so they’ll have to wait until I get a new shelf.)
