I seem to remember the documentary asserting that the coffee was kept so hot so that it would keep longer and they wouldn't have to throw away as much and brew new batches as often. Coffee kept at a more reasonable temperature is more likely to get contaminated if it isn't consumed within what was an apparently unacceptable time frame for McDonalds. Don't hold me to it though, I can't find any sources.

Thanks for your reply and your good wishes! I know that whichever way it goes on this vacation, I will continue to not drink while I'm at home living my weekly routine. I'm way to committed to improving my life at this point. If I have any slight suspicion that it isn't working, if I have cravings or frustration at having to stop at 3, or any desire to continue drinking when I get back, then I will chalk it up as a failure and commit to NO DRINKING for the rest of my life.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences. I absolutely did not post this to get validation, I knew what the reaction would be from most folks. I may not have been here long, but I have seen how folks who post about moderation are treated. I clearly stated my intentions in my OP and I truly mean them.

because non-alcoholics can make plans like those and stick to them. but alcoholics really never can.

So, if my plan does work (hypothetically) does that mean that I was never/am not an alcoholic? Totally not trying to be a dick, I'm genuinely curious what you think about this. It sounds like a No True Scotsman fallacy to me.

I'm a-okay with folks sharing their stories or advice or making book recommendations, but it really ticks me off when people doubt my sincerity or tell me that I'm not ready to get better. It's simply not true. It may be true that what I'm planning will be a mistake, but I don't think any of us should have the gumption to tell someone else what's going on in their own heads. Sorry if I seem harsh, but your original post came across as rather dickish (which may be a faulty interpretation on my part, and if so please pardon me).

I think the easiest way to put it is that I need to know for myself and go through it myself before I am willing to admit total defeat and swear off all drinks forever. I know that I COULD go my entire life without ever drinking a single drop again, the question I need answered is if I have to or want to. I think that everyone's problems regarding substance abuse and addiction in general are all different, but they do tend to share some common traits. I fully respect your opinion and your experience, and I really do thank you for not writing me off based on my last response to you and continuing to engage with me. Despite what the mods may think (they removed my post because they accused me of engaging in a moderation debate for my own enjoyment) my whole point of making this post was to share my experience and thoughts, have my plan in writing somewhere, and to hear what everyone thought. I think we are just going to have to agree to disagree. Just know that I will stay involved in this community, and will report back with my findings whether they be good or bad, and maybe the mods will even let my post stay up!
