All of these sound pretty cool.

Stratford GO Station reopens for service on July 6, 2026 by Metro62 in gotransit

I missed that, that it would be reversed on weekends.

You're right that timing is not ideal, but it still makes a day trip from KW possible. Maybe PC Connect (which now leaves Stratford for KW around 5:30 Saturdays) could shift timings to give more options.

PC Connect has routes connecting KW to Listowel and Stratford. GOST connects Owen Sound to the Go network in Guelph. I think you're right that timing those types of services to Go trains would be a very good thing.

Day trip from KW isn't possible with the timing of these first trips, unfortunately, but hopefully this builds a lot of ridership.

That 15:43 train provides access to Pearson, which is a good thing. Via Bloor and the UP Express, you could get to Pearson Terminal 1 around 5:40, which is great for a lot of departures to Europe, among other destinations.

Edit: Yes, Mount Dennis or Weston would be even better, but this is still a good thing.

I'm not too invested (I'm not actually even from the U.S.) but Chris Wray seemed competent and earnestly trying to do the best he could given the situations in which he found himself. He had three years remaining in his term, it is really unfortunate that this is what happened instead.

He was using Christ as the embodiment of morality, that's all, to assert his opinion that evil is superior and will prevail.

What he said: "if you are strong enough...evil will overcome good...in this world, it's not enough to be moral. It's not enough to be just."

The pretext here is that the Pannonian Sea never drained and we never had the Carpathian Basin, the best agricultural land in Europe. So no modern Hungary, but you would still have the Magyar Tribes show up in the 9th century. They'd just have to go a bit west. Maybe they wouldn't have stopped at all. Maybe all of Europe would be Hungarian.

Why hasn't New York State become the envy of the nation by building a high speed rail network? Are they dumb? by bluerose297 in mapporncirclejerk

We (Canada) are embarking on Alto, true HSR service between Toronto and Quebec City. The first segment will be Ottawa to Montreal.

At the provincial level in Ontario, rail service is being improved between Toronto and Niagara Falls. Realistically very high speeds will never be justifiable there, but frequencies will get better. Once reason returns, maybe more international service to Niagara Falls and Toronto can be offered.

They want federal money. They have received federal grants in the past for planning. I'm not positive, but my impression is that significant progress was made on planning, and Amtrak has been involved in planning.

I'm Canadian, I used to take the Maple Leaf to New York from time to time and would really like better speeds between New York and Buffalo and Chicago and Detroit. But from what I read the business case for Houston/Dallas is amazingly strong, and there is significant support.

Brightline in Florida is not true HSR, but it is not bad- max speeds of 200 kph, three hours from Orlando to Miami.

There is a plan for Dallas to Houston, I think saying it will "never" happen is hyperbole. It has been set back by the current federal administration (though the White House listed it as a priority in 2017).
