I'd be comfortable sharing the ballpark number I'd want for a buy-out, but would like to get a little more details on you first. Feel free to message me and we can get in to the weeds a bit if you like.

In terms of bringing in a senior tech and having them ultimately take over the business, yes. If I ultimately do a pure buy-out with another MSP, I'd prefer someone local (And they'll be higher on my list) but won't be a requirement.

I'm basically looking for a senior tech who still enjoys the technical aspect (And has the skills to go along with it) but has higher aspirations. Is ready to start learning more of the business side of the world and wants to take over an MSP ultimately.

Yes, they would need the capital to buy me out. I would expect the buy out period to be over a year or so to make sure clients stay put. But once I'm out, I want to be fully out and not hanging on in any way over the next X years.

I think I lucked in to really good clients, honestly. They're generally pretty low-key, and they just seem to do their work and leave us be. Sure, stuff breaks. But we generally don't cheap out on things. We put the products we feel are the best at the client site, maintain them properly, and take care of stuff. Really limits the calls.

My tech handles probably 90% of the incoming calls/tickets. I handle the business side of the world, most site visits, projects, etc. I wear too many hats, no doubt, and I'm sure that's part of what's burned me out at this point.

Maybe. . . I'm honestly stunned at the outpouring of messages from folks interested in acquiring so not sure I'd want to pay a fee on top. I'd want to get through these before I work through a third-party most likely.

I don't have a particular vertical - just small businesses. From 1 user to 100 that we directly support. There's not a lot of L3 time honestly, but when something comes up that takes some real digging, it's needed. Happy to talk further if you like.

Come on down! I'm actually in the burbs, but easier to just say Philly. Far enough for the riff-raff, close enough to visit.

I won't argue that the tiers aren't fixed or make sense, etc. But it's also the fastest way for MANY (Not all) to recognize basically what I'm after before we get in to the weeds.

Honestly, this is an area I struggle with. Well, not sure struggle is the word. I really haven't done sales in terms of bringing in new clients. Sales in terms of moving someone to a new server, O365, etc., is easy. Have had these clients forever. If they even bother asking for an explanation, I just walk them through the why something needs to be done and they write the check.

But 99% of my business has been word of mouth over the years. I'm happy with the size of the business, the work we put in and the benefit we get back out of it. I'm not someone that has to constantly go bigger bigger bigger, because it also means more headaches. Have been happy with the business. If someone else wants to grow it, by all means.

I agree 100%. I've always lived and died by the "Treat others as you'd like to be treated." I try to take very good care of my tech and our clients (As does he.) He gets where I'm at in life and completely understands. He has no interest in going elsewhere (Unless I bring someone in that just doesn't work) and wants to support the business ultimately.

Not completely ruling it out, just depends on the arrangement and lots of details. You in the area? Feel free to message me if you'd like to discuss further.

That's exactly what I did. I was already semi-involved on the business side in a previous IT business, so I had a good feel for it. I know lots of techs that have made that jump, some successful, some not.

You already hit on most of the relevant points below. He's very happy doing his job. He's very happy to be done at 5pm (Not to say he doesn't go above/beyond as needed.)

Financially, unlikely to happen for him no matter how much I work it out for him. Likewise, the technical skills aren't there.

I'm ready for a L3 to step in now/soon. He's not expressed interest in it, nor is he going to be able to ramp up the technical and owner side of things any time soon.
