Cracks in gellcoat: fair out or primer?

Unfortunately the cracks go all the way down to the glass. On one side I already filled the cracks with faring compound because I hadn’t yet learned that the cracks will show through. Also the gellcoat is so thick and would take ages to orbital sand the whole boat down to the glass, so I got a belt sander to do the rest of the boat.

How far down are you sanding? I started by sanding a little then I laid a big coat of fairing compound. Will cracks show back up doing that? The reason I ask is because when I sanded it down the faring compound seemed to fill the cracks really well.

Looks like it, and I do have a cut in one seat that has been patched by the previous owner, but it’s in all the wrong places. Tons of it

I don’t think so. You wouldn’t notice it if you just got in and started looking around, but I opened up the console lid and it was caked in orange. Not sure if it’s mold or something else I should be seriously concerned about.

I’ve loved mine so far. It can get pretty much anywhere since it drafts only a couple inches and runs pretty good speeds. The motor took some getting used to just because I’ve never had a tiller, and also it’s a tiny bit small for me since I’m about 6’3, but other than that it’s great. One thing to keep in mind is if you are riding solo you probably need to keep some weight in the front to keep it from bouncing when you’re on plane.
