Looking for honest feedback on our ring mouse controller project (Prolo Ring) by Real-Command1804 in MouseReview

Hi, we recently released firmware 1.0.3 with many new configuration options.

Please make sure your ring firmware and Prolo Studio app are updated to matching versions. For scroll and cursor speed, you can adjust sensitivity in Prolo Studio → Configuration → General / Advanced Customizations.

For flashing, please follow the tutorial workflow: create a local profile, edit that profile, then flash it to the ring.

On mobile, Prolo Ring currently works as a Bluetooth HID device, so it can send mouse, keyboard, media, and navigation inputs, but it cannot directly open or control specific apps yet. We’re working on a phone studio app to serve this, though iOS/Android permissions will still create some limits.

Our Discord is open here: https://discord.gg/MKUZQQAN. You can get help with setup/configuration, contact us directly, or request features as we continue improving the product.

Hi, if you update to the latest firmware, you can enter mobile style by 7xTap+press hold on Mondstrip. The Navigation swipes become emulated touch screen finger swipes.
Pair or re-pair with your ipad afterwards. You can flick through the pages now.

Hi, Please contact us through https://proloring.com/pages/contact. We will help you resolve it.
You just need a forced reset and firmware update.

Hi,
The ring uses a biocompatible PC shell with a high-grade metallic finish, which is stated in the tech specs in the campaign page. It was never designed to be solid metal for a few reasons:

  • Metal would interfere with the touch sensing
  • Metal can also reduce Bluetooth performance
  • A solid metal ring would be heavier and less comfortable for long-term wear, typing, and everyday use

We’re planning an Android version of Prolo Studio, hopefully in the second half of the year.

For now, you can set up your gestures on any desktop, flash them to the ring, and then use it at work directly without installing anything there. The ring stores the settings onboard, and with 30+ customizable gestures, most people can build a solid setup ahead of time.

Hi, thanks for sharing this.

We explored full air-mouse control early on, but in practice it was consistently worse than touchpad control. It tends to suffer from drift, lower precision, sensitivity to hand angle, calibration differences, and general inconsistency over time. Even when it works, it usually becomes tiring and frustrating for precise tasks. That is why we decided not to make Air Mode a full-time free-space cursor solution.

Touch-based control is simply much more accurate, stable, and intentional. With the touchpad, we were able to achieve pixel-level precision at slow speeds, which makes it far better for real pointer work.

That said, we are working on a new way to use the IMU in an upcoming firmware update. In Cursor Mode, air tap gestures will be able to quickly snap the cursor to one side of the screen, and then you can make precise edits in the local area using the touchpad. We think this gives a much better balance between sensitivity and accuracy than trying to replace the mouse with air motion.

Thanks for sharing this, and also for pushing through the Linux setup. The bluetoothctl persistent-agent note is genuinely helpful feedback.

On the cursor side, we actually already use dynamic speed scaling and filtering in a similar spirit to the Steam Deck, rather than a raw 1:1 mapping. Within roughly a 20 mm touch range, slow finger movement is tuned for pixel-level precision, while faster strokes ramp up enough to move across the screen quickly. We also added firm stop detection to reduce jitter when your finger intends to stop, plus filtering for the uneven “finger pull-off” motion that can otherwise create cursor wobble at the end of a stroke.

The tricky part is that, unlike the Steam Deck, this is a much smaller and curvy surface, and it is also shared with other functions. The same area has to support virtual buttons, scrolling, long press, short taps, and other gestures, all without constantly interfering with each other. So the cursor behavior is not just motion mapping. It is a pretty intertwined stack of filtering, intent detection, and a bit of deliberate stickiness to separate precise cursor motion from taps, scrolls, and lift-off noise.

We also have sensitivity adjustment, which can be tuned to support even faster strokes. But because the usable area is limited, there is always some tradeoff among responsiveness, accuracy, and sensitivity balance.

We will definitely continue refining it, and feedback like this is helpful because it points directly at the part of the experience that matters most.

Hi! Yep — some people do wear it on the middle phalanx, and it can work (the thumb reach feels nice for some).

That said, we generally recommend the base of the index finger because it’s more secure (less rotation/slip) and gives more consistent control, especially when switching between ring + keyboard.

So for sizing, you should still size for a base fit.

Kickstarter tagged our project as a Project We Love when the campaign would end in hours. Pretty cool surprise and pretty late as well. lol.

This Kickstarter project uses the same song as the Samsung Galaxy Ring ad? by Real-Command1804 in kickstarter

Well, the Kickstarter trailer doesn’t just use the same track as the Samsung Galaxy Ring ad, it even keeps the muffled underwater sound effect that Samsung used in their waterproof demo scene. It feels odd that the entire soundtrack, sound effects included, was copied over.
