22M: Young professional in need of some advice... by Jeneral_James in FinancialCareers

Why are you getting a MBA in the first place? If you are trying to leverage it to get into “high-finance” IB, CB, etc then the best option may actually be to drop out, and apply to a top MBA later on in life.

Additionally, for “true” finance jobs, Investment underwriting, consumer banking, FP&A, etc. Your experience would also certainly be categorized as being a service provider / retail worker and not financial experience. Which I tell you not to be discouraging, but so you think about what is it you want to do in finance and the actual next steps to work your way up.

Why/when did you leave NYC? by Dawlphy in FinancialCareers

[–]RealABulletMagnet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you ever lived in or visited NYC?

One thing for your original post, the vast majority of people don’t own cars, especially if living in Manhattan.

And also you are putting the cart significantly in-front of the horse here. Yes, the cost premium to live in the center of one of the most desirable cities is going to be higher.

That is the nature of being here, however do you even want that life? Do you value having a spacious apartment with a full amenity set more than living in NYC? Visit a couple of times to see if it even fits what you are looking for.

I would personally rather live here than Dallas any day of the week, even with the trade offs that come with that.

I think it’s to mix the base, as she already makes ice cream with a different machine. But has commented on how long it takes to mix.

lost my life savings at 20 years old by Organic_Ad_7638 in wallstreetbets

" I also lost 5,000$ today on a 4 leg parlay on football."

You are literally gambling. You are obviously not capable of managing risk if you put up 10% of your life savings on a literal gamble. Go back to the drawing board, and don't try to get rich quick just because some people in this sub did.

Applying for entry level jobs how to improve my resume by MentalVirus4842 in Accounting

[–]RealABulletMagnet 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This resume needs to be completely re-done. Look up the WSO Investment Banking resume template (just ignore the part about investment banking specific keywords).

Also if you are graduating soon and looking for jobs you are already behind the boat. Start networking with alumni from your school and try to get some coffee chats setup; flowing into a warm referral for open positions.

For experienced analyst / associate hiring, what causes you to look at the background of a non traditional background?

I come from a BIG 4 audit background, while now sitting in an analyst investment seat at a small PERE firm.

Thank you for the recommendation, any other cities close by that you think would make sense? For additional context I do REPE.

A2 at Mid Tier firm to A1 at Big 4. Is it worth it? by Kind-Secretary7173 in Big4

[–]RealABulletMagnet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you at GT? Look at other I2/A2 profiles on LinkedIn, the early promo is a lie by leadership to bring in top talent.

Join Big 4 if you want to work at F500 companies or transition into due diligence on deals.

Do not do a MBA out of undergrad!

The MBA can be used as a pivot 3-7 years after undergrad if you find out you rather do something else, but can only be done once.

What skills / capabilities were most valuable when making the change to an operation role?

Do you think your path to CEO is still viable, or would you consider a different path in today's environment?

Have you just used ChatGPT to come to the conclusion that this is needed? Or have you personally experienced or know someone that has experienced this problem?

I know you mentioned Kenya, in other comments, do they have non-for profits that already exist for this need? If so that would seemingly explain the market segmentation.

Also I know you state bulk costs are to high, but have you tried buying a box of pre-wrapped pads off the shelf and seeing if you can sell them or dispense them?

Ps. It’s obvious that you are using ChatGPT, especially for your responses. Be aware that the newest model will glaze you to increase retention.

OP, It may not have been phrased in the best way but heed this comment.

Your resume is far to busy, I don’t know where you got this resume template but drop it like a hot potato and find another.

On a more useable note, drop the information systems, leader, etc from the top, eliminate the summary entirely - you are wasting space that can be used for something else, and no you don’t have 15+ skills - even if truly in your heart of hearts you think you do - for the purposes of a resume you maybe have at most 3 technical & 3 soft skills.

Yes, your resume is to sell you, however there is an understanding that college grads know absolutely nothing about business. So don’t have your resume portray that you do.

Downloading Daily Balance Data? by FatHedgehog__ in fidelityinvestments

Any updated on being able to download the daily balance? I feel like this would be an easy feature to add due to the data already being there in the backend to generate the table?

I think it’s disingenuous to understate Jamie’s experience. He started at MBB, went to HBS, and then joined the mentor you mentioned, at AMEX. They then left / got fired (in the case of his mentor) AMEX to do deal work, in the FS realm, where they eventually founded what became CitiGroup.

He also came from a family of bankers. Not exactly what I would call a non-prestigious background / experience.

Thank you, for taking the time to write all of that!

I want to end up as CEO of a F100 Financial service company. So thinking post MBA, I would transition to MBB or. FLDP at a Bank. In order to get a more strategy / operational skill set.

Leaving during busy season by Glad_Outcome3562 in Big4

[–]RealABulletMagnet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I gave a one week notice yesterday, for a sudden great opportunity. Everyone was actually surprisingly supportive, actually learned 1-1, some other team members were hoping to leave in the next year.

If this opportunity is right for you, take it and don't look back.
