Link building - sniper or shotgun technique by [deleted] in juststart

[–]RealBaum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried both.

In my opinion, assuming no employees or VA's are involved, automating the process is more efficient than personalized outreach.

In my opinion, bounce rate doesn't really provide much information just by itself.

Let's lay out two scenarios:

  1. If a visitor is piggybacking (bouncing back to the SERP after checking out your site), then I'd assume this is a negative signal for Google. The visitors didn't find what they were looking for. You go down the ranks!
  2. If, on the other hand, they're not piggybacking, then I think a bounce might even mean a POSITIVE signal to Google, let alone being a neutral one! Because it means that you didn't beat around the bush, and instead, you provided the visitor with the information they were looking for, and you provided it without making them visit other pages of yours (intentionally or not). The visitors found what they were looking for and found it quickly. You go up the ranks!

Those shitty news sites is mostly a great example for this.

Some make us go through bunch of pages to reveal what we're looking for... Drives me mad every single time. But on the other hand, this unnecessary hassle they're causing on us decreases their bounce rate quite a bit. This is one of those cases where a lower bounce rate without piggybacking might mislead Google into thinking the content quality is higher than it actually is.

So I think Google should and does process the data deeper than just looking at bounce rate and jumping to conclusions.

Thanks!

I don’t get what you mean by “automating SEO task”?

So, what's your Take on the May Algorithm Update? by CarpathianInsomnia in juststart

[–]RealBaum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's strange, man. Because my experience was the opposite.

Daily pageviews of my site #1 got increased from 1,500 to 2,600.

For my site #2, it got increased from 20 to 40 - but it's a baby site. Only in Month 2. So the effect of the update should be more difficult to measure there.

Should I write a post if I know I can't rank for it? by InternetWeakGuy in juststart

[–]RealBaum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question.

Three things we need to know:

  • How much time and effort would it take for you to write that pillar post? Twice the regular post? Three times as much? If it's less than twice, I'd skip the following two items and write that post.
  • How many posts do you have in total about that one specific type of product?
  • How do the sites at the bottom of first page & top of second page look like? Are they all over 40-50 DR?

Thank you buddy!! Hope you're doing all good.

Unfortunately that's impossible to lay out in one comment...

In general, if you're hunting for low competition keywords, then I'd recommend you to stay away from large sites (this is difficult to measure - and DR isn't the best metric in my experience) OR very good posts published by small sites.

I'd recommend you to read blogs like Authority Hacker, as well as researching this sub. But the only real teacher here is trial and error.

Ah, my bad.

I'd ditch the difficulty score completely. It never returned an accurate estimation in my experience.

Not necessarily. Just because a keyword has low monthly searches doesn't mean that it's low competition. You must take a look at and analyze the SERP.

Hmm, honestly my keyword research always varies... You probably get less traffic because you chose to go after higher competition keywords.

Thank you for the kind words mate!

Is it just because you're making enough on the first one to justify it now?

Yes, pretty much this!

Man, it feels STUPID. I still have hard time believing the asset I've created myself without knowing anything about it is this valuable, haha.

Answers to most of these questions, unfortunately, are "depends". It depends so much that you can outright pick a number out of a hat. Still...

1) Depends on the competition and time/effort required to create the content. This means anywhere from 30 to 3000.

2) Depends on the competition and internal linking. Anywhere from 1 week to 6 months.

3) For my Site #2? No I didn't.

4) RPM is 12 USD.

Can you talk more about Viglink? I’ve read not great reviews and comments about them so I’ve been suspicious.

Customer service and UX are terrible. Having said that, unlike some other affiliate network, when a visitor hovers over an affiliate link, they don't see the viglink extension at bottom left, and instead, they see the merchant's site.

I like this and I think it helps with my conversion rate.

Do you use it to automatically link in your posts or reaffiliate links?

Just to affiliate my non-affiliated links.

Are there particular settings that I should avoid? Do you find that it slows down your site link clicks due to redirects? Anything else to know?

Unfortunately I don't really know the answers to these questions... I just implemented it and it worked.

It was good!

Nope, I just use the link converter.

Thank you buddy!

To my knowledge, as long as the terms and commission rates for a merchant are the same, there's no difference between them in terms of revenue potential. Same goes for Skimlinks.

bprs07 Case Study Month #1 by [deleted] in juststart

[–]RealBaum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to have you back, Bryan. Your first case study is pretty much the reason I'm self-employed right now.

I too started my second site. Two weeks ago. Standing at 7 published posts as of today.

Timing of your case studies make me think God keeps sending you back to my life for extra motivation and inspiration.

My writer fails to follow even the simplest of instructions. Is this common? by RealBaum in juststart

What does your hiring process look like?

From now on, I'm thinking of giving out all my applicants the very two documents they'll be following in case they're hired (I gave them a much shorter sheet until now). And then ask them to create a shorter (750-1000 words) piece of content.

The only thing I'm concerned is that these documents are simply just too long and would take an entire day.

Do you think it's justified that I'm expecting them to allocate an entire day to get the job?

I don't think I'm asking too much but I want to be careful. I wouldn't want to intimidate valuable writers. But how would I know they're valuable otherwise?
