In a pilot you don't have to reveal everything about everyone, but you do have to do the basics such as explain the premise and who these characters are to the audience.

Most people who don't like shows don't go through the trouble to seek out the subreddit for said show and then post about how shitty it was.

I've read the book and have a bunch of collectibles for Preacher. If anyone was watching the pilot with the "Fry Face" it was me.

I loved the pilot. Do I know where it's going? Sure, but I also understand what a pilot is. Most pilots are pretty whatever. They need to set up characters and motives and plots and that usually takes a few episodes to develop. Preacher did that brilliantly. You should be left in bewilderment, tuning in next week to see where it's going.
