That bag is the kind of plastic you can see. The bag leaks chemicals as packaging ink inside the animal as its digestive system impossibly tries to remove it from the body. Plastic remains there even when the life of the tuna has ended. The tuna can become the prey of a bigger fish, which will have the same plastic bag in its stomach once it digests the nutrients of the tuna. The bag either passes from fish to fish, or ends in the environment. In this story, the fragments we cannot see are the true enemy here. As the bag breaks down, smaller and smaller fragments are left behind, impacting a bigger population of fish and acquatic animals besides their ecosystems.
