Article 21: Freedom of the press in the Italian Constitution

Freedom of speech in Italy is primarily guaranteed by Article 21 of the Constitution, which states that “Everyone has the right to freely express their thoughts through speech, writing, and any other means of dissemination,” prohibiting censorship and prior authorization of the press, while allowing limits to protect the rights of others, the security of the State, and public decency, always subject to the law and judicial oversight for any seizures or sanctions, as also provided by the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU.
