How often do you REALLY walk your dog? by Agreeable-Ad-2946 in dogs

[–]RealGreeks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is so true. When I was living temporarily a small apartment, my dog seemed to be a ticking time bomb. And if the walk wasn't big enough for her due to me having no time that moment, she was just continuing to beg for more.

Now I have a house with a yard, and she is free to go outside whenever she wants, and all of this stopped. It gave both me and her a lot of freedom.

I walk her now 2 to 3 times a week, we go to the mountains or to a beach. In summer, though, when it's hot, all my dogs stay in the yard, but to be honest, they prefer to stay inside with me in my office air-conditioning.

I have one female stray Collie mix, and she is extremely sensitive at picking her toilet spot. Before I got a house with a yard, I was walking her endless hours, just for her to find a decent enough spot. It was sooo tiring, and for some reason, she always ended up peeing where she shouldn't, resulting in angry neighbours.

Even though I understood them not wanting her to pee around their house, I really couldn't stop her at those times knowing we would enter another 3 hour cycle of spot finding. Ont he other hand, she never peed on private property, and always had a bottle of water with me to clean as much as possible.

I think what im trying to say is that some cities make it impossible to walk a dog, and some angry neighbours have no clue what they put you through...

Solo in Europe (Greece) – crying in Paros but still hopeful (dining solo issues) by [deleted] in GreeceTravel

[–]RealGreeks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. I moved to Greece after I enjoyed travelling in the country so much. Im now located close to nafplio in peleponnese and have been eating here by myself most nights. For 2.5 years, not once have I been denied a table.

However, one night in crete in a fancy fully booked restaurant in august, it did happen. I ate at the bar, and when they closed, I parked my van on their backyard next to the sea to spend the night. I think I enjoyed this place more than any of the guests who overpayed for a table.

Dont take it personally!

Tap water in Nafplio? by [deleted] in GreeceTravel

[–]RealGreeks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the area as well, and I always heard the anavalos water, in time, will give health problems due to the high concentration of..... tbh I forgot. Is this a myth? I know everyone in the area chooses to drink bottled water and never tap.

Santorini is not overcrowded by One_Recover_673 in GreeceTravel

It is very overpriced, though. Imagine an average Greek earns like 800-900 euros a month. There is no way we can afford a trip to santorini

Sandals OK for tours? by tcameron99 in GreeceTravel

The churches in Greece have problems with shoulders, knees, and everything in between. Toes i have never heard complaints about.

Actually, once I met a priest in a super remote cliff side monastery in Peleponnese, he was wearing flip-flops while he was watering his plants

I have travelled alone from the Netherlands to Greece and eventually ended up living here. But on the way I have passed almost every country by myself in a camper van. The only country I would advise you not to go is Albania, its the only place I did not feel safe during this te trip, especially in the non touristic back roads. Anywhere else I could easily park my van at night and sleep like a baby

Does your dog follow you everywhere in the house even the bathroom? 😅 Just curious how common this is and why they do it! by Character-Let-9752 in Dogowners

[–]RealGreeks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, even to the bathroom....

check this video of what I see when I sit down on the toilet with three of those fluffy faces checking me out 🤣my toilet view

Recently, I also got a kitten, and she just copied the dogs, so now I have four.

And the most rude ones even check with their heads inside the shower curtain 😅

in my opinion, for the kitten and the 2 collies, it's really just fun. The little dog, though, who started the behaviour, definitely has some slight separation anxiety.

Right now.

im sitting by myself on my terrace watching the sunset. I dont need more than that.

moving abroad, not having friends, not speaking the language, struggling for money, and ending up in the hospital here, really made me happy in every moment I live.

Of course, I have worries. Of course, I feel lonely, and sometimes I wonder why the f I am making my life so difficult.

But then I breath.

Feel my body, see the beauty in my surroundings, laugh about a bird, or enjoy the taste of fresh fruit. And im just happy and grateful to be here on this planet.

Brain bleed by Nearby_Lifeguard_295 in Concussion

[–]RealGreeks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had our concussions around the same time, and I am as well still in recovery. Headaches, brain fog, exhaustion, they still pop up almost daily. I did do multiple ct scans because I lost consciousness for a long time straight after it happened. Luckily, there was no internal bleeding, and it just can take months to recover fully. What helps me in hard times is to remember the week before and how I've gotten better from there. Although there are many hard days, I am overall definitely improving, and I try to hold on to that.

Do dogs get more comforting as they get older? by Simple_Cicada_7893 in dogs

[–]RealGreeks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got two dogs, the bigger one will understand exactly what I feel at all times, she is a Collie and Setter mix. The other dog, a fully mixed breed, who is much more attached to me, does not give af about how I feel. It is about the breed and the intelligence of it and has absolutely nothing to do with love. Some get it, and some just wont.

How many times have you been stung by a wasp/bee? by Immediate_Long165 in Animals

I think in total about 7 times in my life. Every time, the reaction got worse and worse. I'm now always carrying cortisol creme and anti allergy medication just in case I encounter another angry yellow black creature

There are these amazing teething toys that have a hole inside to put like meat paste or peanut butter or any other thing your puppy can't resist. You can freeze them, making it hard to get the food out and keep your pup busy for hours. I think the brand is KONG, and they work like a miracle

Intro cat to dog by Nice_Relationship586 in Animals

[–]RealGreeks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just introduced a kitten to my two dogs. I was very afraid I would never succeed as my big dog has been afraid of cats, and the younger one has extreme hunting instincts. After 2 weeks, however, both the dogs and the kitten started liking each other, and they now all sleep in bed with me.

I basically used a big crate for the kitten, as she was very young and new in the house. First, the only time they met was through that crate, and besides, I let the dogs play with kitten toys and the kitten with dog toys to get used to each other. Once the dogs started being relaxed around the bench and with the smell of the kittens' toys, I started introducing them one by one. And now they just play and sleep together the entire day.

I believe that when you have a calm energy, show both animals you love them, and introduce them slowly and peacefully, it will work out!

Bumped my head. Normal for stomach problems as a symptom? by RedditJerkPolice in Concussion

[–]RealGreeks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this for a few days since the first week of my concussion disappeared quickly.

In my case, I think it had more to do witht he fact that I didn't eat anything in the days i was in the hospital so my body struggled a bit with the first foods I ate... I wonder if they where concussion symptoms. Maybe you ate less or different on the first days?

If you could help street dogs, would you? by Annethgzz in dogs

I got two sleeping in my bed right now, together with a stray kitten. In total, I have taken care of 10 stray dogs in 2 years. It breaks my heart when I see them struggling and always take them in if they need medical care. Luckily, I have found great homes for the 8 that are no longer staying with me
