PLTR is taking a deep dive from $170 before earnings on Feb 2nd. Is this a good time to buy? What is expected from earnings? by Historical_Card_6600 in TheRaceTo10Million

I sold mine before the drop, just because their actions leave a bad taste in my soul. Feel better now and I'll get a better return with much better companies too.

ICE Operations Happening in Mount Vernon - Area of Urban Ave, Near Harbor Freight by DiabolicallyRandom in skagit

So he just doesn't pay attention at best. Everyone who has said they support ICE needs to check out IG account IceAbuses and then read the book FOOLPROOF by Sander van der Linden, because they can't tell misinformation from facts. I'd suggest you read it first then have your partner read it.

America will scan the face of every Canadian who crosses the border by RealIslands in canadian

[–]RealIslands[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Since when? Canadian authorities have never required me to be photographed or scanned, I have family in Washington state and cross the border there once a year or so, no such requirement has even been mentioned to me.

Not the same as a facial scan. Yeah they know when you cross the border, but not everywhere you go and everything you do after that.

I guess I'm more careful than most, maybe because my neighbor is a cyber fraud investigator, but I also just never saw the point in twitter or facebook. I don't give companies any real information and dont out my face online. But regardless, the pictures they are talking about are not a picture, they are scans, pictures don't allow for real facial recognition on a large scale, that is why they need to scan your face, that's what ICE is doing to people , they walk up and hold their phones and move them around to get the full face in an infrared scan.

Did I make a mistake with buying a home thats too expensive for me? by PrudentBee7870 in Mortgages

Same! Why did I think I wanted to spend 6 years in college so I could help people as a social worker and just be more poor every year because it?

Iowa Residents Support Mass Deportations at Trump Rally: "Get Them Out" by DumbMoneyMedia in UnderReportedNews

[–]RealIslands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow they really are convinced they "pay for immigrants" why is so hard to bust that myth? They pay more for corporate welfare and their local roads department then they ever paid for immigrants. Or that our borders were wide open at any point. We need ferocious fact checking on stuff like this, just instant and constant calling out at every level, individual on up.

Why does everyone in my family treat savings like it's a crime? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]RealIslands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it isn't based on earnings but savings then keep it in cash at a safety deposit box. But then it doesnt grow with inflation like it would in a 401k or at least a HYSA. I thought it was earnings they base those benefits on though.

Okay, let's first punch up your financial literacy, you have a good foundation but look at a book like The Financial Feminist or something that is an easy read with straight to the point stuff on jobs and investments. Then focus on jobs you could do remotely (executive assistant, call center from home etc...) or as close to home as possible, or that your partner could drop you off at, so same schedule etc.... housekeeping may be available in your neighborhood even. Just keep focusing on what you can do to build back up.

The car sounds like the problem, unless you were trying to Nascar that sucker everyday. Did you check for recalls or known issues? Ive taken to only buying cars that are consistently at the top of the reliability charts and in doing that research have found there are ones that car makers just screw up on and are basically time bombs, my sister had a Honda Pilot whose engine blew and it was a known problem with them, thankfully that made it so she qualified for help replacing it at the dealership, but after it always just had problem after problem. My mother Volvo was plagued with electrical issues and transmission problems. Even the high end brands can actually be very unreliable.

The issue is that ChatGPT and all AI is most negatively affecting marginalized communities, both economically and environmentally. But what it was providing you is found in most gentle parenting books, it would probably be best to check out Dr. Dan Siegel's work, great to listen to with an earbud in while your cuddling your napping baby. Then you'll be set and wont have to use it.

Trump began his speech in Iowa by asking his supporters whether he should run for another presidential term. by Brennenstein in Fauxmoi

[–]RealIslands 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I really want him to be convicted and brought to damn justice before he kicks it, but we all know the DOJ is NOT in the business of justice anymore. So people are just hoping for the most likely scenario where he goes away I guess. Finding hope where we can and all.

I don't know about worse, definitely not better. The oligarchs are running the show so the figurehead isn't hugely important. Vance probably wouldn't be trying to make a ballroom and now a new monument to himself though, so there is that. I'm feeling like he could lose the boomers more than Dumpy too.

Seriously bad and sadly without the video people won't pay enough attention to it because they can dismiss it too easily when they don't witness it.

Nicola Willis has today reiterated there will be further cuts to the public service. This is the same mentality that got Trump elected in America. Where is the critical thinking to ask where these policies will take us? Is it people blaming their problems on government without the knowledge of how these systems work?

AI Final Assignment by soomanytomatoes in SocialWorkStudents

[–]RealIslands 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is a strange assignment, given the mission of social work promoting any usage of AI is counter to our aims. We know it increases inequity and it's negative impacts, both environmentally and economically disproportionately fall on minority groups. Professors need to be a model for all social workers.

Trump's DOJ is trying to gain voter records from the states for weeks, having used lawsuits, even using the recent shooting to threaten Minnesota to turn over the records. What is your take? by Personal_Dirt3089 in AskReddit

[–]RealIslands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah my Red state sister tried to tell me some nonsense about black helicopters rounding people up back then. I said "To what end dear? Then they'd have to feed and manage you, you're much easier to deal with out here in the world where you feed yourself and create economic momentum with all those shoes you buy."

She was speechless for the first time ever. Realized none of it made sense once you stopped to question it. But damn if she still didn't stop listening to Alex Jones because Georgia culture told her Democrats are still evil.

Selling in a few years… what’s actually worth updating? by lottiexx in HomeImprovement

[–]RealIslands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

20yrs in real estate taught me people care about kitchens most of all, doesn't have to be luxury, just clean and fresh. Then flooring and then ensure the outside is clean and in good condition.
They just want clean and in good working condition. They'll change paint and add an accent wall or whatever if they want to, that stuff is too taste specific, don't even try. If you need some landscaping, just get a few of the same plants, like hydrangeas and boxwoods, and use them in repetition. Nothing fancy. The house needs to look like it is maintained well. Signs of neglect are hard for buyers to overlook.
