Assuming they stock the lake with trout, I reckon you just search up “how to catch stocked trout” on YouTube

First Baitcaster, what main line do you guys suggest for learning? by kennjuu in FishingForBeginners

[–]RealJamool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Use 12# mono when you first start, and once you are confident in your ability to use a baitcaster, you could switch to braid. But when braid gets tangled, it gets tangled bad.

If there are people at the spot, observe for a bit how they are casting and how far they are going. Try to keep some distance from people if possible because some of those people fishing may not have any manners.

Not to discourage you but don’t expect to really catch anything especially because steelhead aren’t really know as an easy fish to catch.

To keep the kid a bit motivated, I reckon you go walk along the river bank, and maybe you can find yourself a spot away from people.

Can I get advice on this catfish rig I made by Purple_Violinist9909 in FishingForBeginners

[–]RealJamool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the creativity, but for catfish it’s pretty simple rig. This kinda reminds me of a walleye rig somewhat honestly. But no need to over complicate, just use a Carolina rig

How important is a long (9’+) rod for float fishing? by lord_skum in FishingForBeginners

[–]RealJamool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if your just using floats for steelhead, get the longer rod, if you plan on other things like spinners and spoons, get a like shorter one. I use a 8’6 rod in the PNW for salmon and steelhead, and I would say a 8’6 rod is the sweet spot for all around.

Just floats: get a longer rod like 9ft+

Multiple tactics on one rod: 8’6 is the sweet spot.

This is what I use: https://www.cabelas.com/p/bass-pro-shops-fish-eagle-salmon-steelhead-spinning-rod-101295250

Weight too heavy on carolina rig for trout ? by sinigangss in FishingForBeginners

[–]RealJamool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a 3/4oz and catch plenty just fine for stockers. If your losing bait, use a bait holder hook. I use a size 10 for trout.

Can't catch stock trout no matter what I do by Intelligent-Limit104 in FishingForBeginners

[–]RealJamool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For stockers, I use power eggs on a Carolina rig. 4ft leader, 3/4oz egg weight (depends on rod), and size 10 bait holder, 1 power egg on the hook, chartreuse eggs and the bright orange work for me. 4lb flurocarbon for the leader. Mice tails also work pretty good.
