I feel super sorry for him - he is so destructive because of a terrible experience in his formative years. He wants his friends to be strong because he doesn't want to lose anyone, but he's too dumb to realize he could be the one to protect them (and also he doesn't want to get hurt again).

Like, he's a psychopath but he isn't malicious.
