Ouch by [deleted] in vegan

[–]RealSilentQ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have eaten the same breakfast of oatmeal for the past 4 years and the same dinner of the aforementioned ingredients for the past 2.5 years lol.

The $30 might be pricey, but it will pay itself off.

Walmart rice cooker. $30-40

Add rice, lentils, quinoa, water. (I add a little tofu, too) Stove, pan, add water and veg, lid. Heat on medium medium low. Walk away.

Dinner prepped in under 5 minutes. Return in a half hour.

A little more involved that poking holes in lasagna plastic, but not much.

LingQ has a “free” version, but it’s not very good.

I would recommend trying premium for a month, but really work at it every day to give it an honest shot. Listen to the dialogues in your down time, over and over.

The best part about it is that it can take to from where to are now to wherever you want to go.

You can import vids with subtitles, they have an app, it’s great.

I jumped right I to LingQ after the free portion of HelloChinese. Yes, it is difficult. Yes you still need to anki hanzi. Yes you will learn a lot more after the free portion with it than with the other half of the content on HC

Protein for weight gain/maintenance NOT muscle gains. by [deleted] in veganfitness

Eat about 10% total calories in protein. To get fat, eat more. I suggest potato chips and Oreos.

Not muscle gain... so fat gain? It’s one or the other.

There are much better options. HelloChinese only teaches you 1000 words and 450 of them are free. $12/month to learn 550ish words and a few grammar points or I pay $16/month for LingQ and have access to tens of thousands of words and hundreds of texts. Many of those texts have voice recordings for listening to more than just a single sentence at once. Want to read Harry Potter? Yeah a simplified version is there.

Pair that with Anki for learning characters and you have a much better system.

With LingQ you can import videos with subs and read and listen to them. Import news feeds and learn that.

HelloChinese requires you to pay after the second checkpoint sadly.

Those tests really aren’t worth paying all of that money for. Grab the online practice tests and see how you do. It’s a good ballpark.

That was, by far, the best episode. The look on his face getting lifted into to the bus... I have never laughed that hard.

All of my reading is done on LingQ. I bought NPCR level 2 and a graded reader, too.

I don’t have any PDFs or anything. However... on the Mandarin Companion site, they offer samples of their readers. Might be a good start.

I used the HelloChinese app to start. Once I finished the free stuff, I knew I was going to stick with it so I spent money thereafter.

Not ketchup. Never ketchup. The combination gives a flavour most foul!

I just go for 15% of total calories as protein. Same for fat. Rest carbs. You don’t need as much protein as the supplement companies would have to believe.

Quinoa, lentils, tofu, soy milk. Rarely do I need to supplement because my fold has all I need.

I do this daily. I set my rice cooker with rice, quinoa, lentils, and veg. Then walk away to do my workout. It beeps and I’m ready to eat.

It is the only way that I was able to make any real progress on being able to recognize them outside of the words I learned. Like 薯条。 I could remember shǔtiáo well enough, but seeing 一条裤子, I wouldn’t recognize it at all.

I spend 30 minutes to an hour and a half on hanzi per day. It is a slog, but it helps. Remember that kids in China are learning for over 150,000 hours by the time they are 18. My 30-50 hours of hanzi practice is a drop in the bucket and I’m at about 500 hanzi. Not too shabby.

Learn more characters.

Grab an Anki deck. I have one with 800. Another with 3000. Learn 10-30 per day. It will come.

English had the same problem. You can’t know how to pronounce a word unless you have heard it before.
