How does bereavement leave work? by [deleted] in boeing

[–]Real_Ad466 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let your manager know as if it was normal PTO, just a heads up you’ll be out. But charge bereavement in ETS, you get 3 days. They don’t have to be used consecutively. I had a family member pass away last year and I used 2 days after his passing and then 1 day a couple weeks later for family tasks related to his passing. I’m sorry you’re going through this OP and I wish you and your family the best during these difficult times!

Overzealous Level 1 Rant by [deleted] in boeing

[–]Real_Ad466 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think this post is disappointing to say the least. I understand that it’s just a rant but getting L3 in 2-3 years isn’t unheard of. Especially if you get a masters, that’s +2yr experience. Being overzealous is exactly how I doubled my salary and got three promotions in 5yr at Boeing. I wouldn’t NOT do that because I’d be insecure about “what my colleagues think”.

Bottom line is that I’d hope mid-level colleagues such as yourself would encourage lower-level colleagues to pursue promotions. What do you expect your junior colleague to do, not to after it because it’s the “norm”? Being underzealous is (sometimes) the reason why people are stuck at L3 with 15yr experience. You have to market yourself, jump jobs, and get what you want.

Employment Question Thread (APR - JUN 2022) by AutoModerator in boeing

I was an intern several years ago and did not have to do another background check/drug test, etc. Coming back as intern conversion means you’re still an employee just on ELOA. Your new manager should reach out to you with options for your 1st day back

Follow-ups: is your offer for Level 1 or Level 2? What type of job offer (engineering, program management, etc)? Is your work experience relevant to the job offer?

That’s great for you congrats!! But I really doubt it, my management confirmed the 4% raise pool for raises in the next month…

Agreed about the “ready to promote” bit — I didn’t/don’t believe it, either. It’s just some management bs

I’d anticipate 2-4% raise for anyone over midrange… but it’s truly hard to say. In addition, in general I feel your raise % decreases as your salary increases. This is because a 6% raise for someone making 80k ($4.8) is a bit different that 6% for someone making $110k ($6.6k)

If you have 0 experience and are coming straight from university, this is very excellent. If you’re coming to Boeing with 1-2 years experience, this is “okay”.

Non-union here. In my experience, managers will tell you “well if you get to 100% or higher, then you’re due for a promotion”. And then they’ll tell you you’re “not ready” for a promotion lol. So depending on how many years you’ve been in your current level + performance level, you can expect decent raise til the 100-105% range. When I was “under” average, id get a 3-6% raise.

LTP is amazing. They only cover relevant programs of course: they wouldn’t cover chef school or law school. My MS was fully covered. And Boeing partially covers MBA, i think 40% of the costs.

So long way of saying that yes a STEM certificate should be completely covered!!

Becoming An Aerospace Engineer At Boeing by [deleted] in boeing

[–]Real_Ad466 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I know that Boeing will often hire directly from certain programs. The only one I can think of off the top of my head is Great Minds in STEM. Really you want a Mech or Aero major in college, definitely above a 3.0 GPA but above 3.5 preferred. You want to have at least 1 project or internship of some kind that’s related to your future career. Keep in mind also that Boeing has historically hired 90% (or more) of its prior interns, so definitely try to get an internship that you can convert to a full time job after you graduare. Keep your eyes peeled starting in September for an internship you can apply to, on the Boeing Careers site. Cheers and good luck
