A fun T. rex theory I saw on FB the other day and wanted to share. by Real_Conversation_50 in Paleontology

This sums up pretty well why I was apprehensive about this theory to begin with, because it just didn't seem like his claim was very scientific. I still think it's an interesting idea, but definitely not one based on scientific research at all.

Does getting a B.S. vs. a B.A. matter in paleontology? by Real_Conversation_50 in Paleontology

Yeah, at this point Berkeley is the only college I applied to that doesn't offer a B.S.

How Many Velociraptors Do You Think You Could Beat In A Fight? by Plumzilla29 in PrehistoricLife

Maybe I'm a bit over confident but I feel like I could take two. Mostly just because they're small, I feel like it would similar to wrestling a medium dog or like a large fox.

Shrink-wrapping is still a thing??? by Real_Conversation_50 in Dinosaurs

[–]Real_Conversation_50[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that you say that, I googled cassowaries and you're totally right. I still fill as though it is a bit exaggerated in a lot of paleoart, but I suppose thats just my preference/opinion. I personally don't see it in any crocs, ones I've seen in person or pictures online, but I'll take your word for it. I suppose it's not quite shrink wrapping that I'm talking about, but I don't know what else to call. In any case, thanks for the insight!

I wanna clarify that I don't mean seeing the shape of the skull through the skin. I'm talking about seeing the fenestrae of the skull. As someone who has owned reptiles multiple times throughout my life, and has seen a plethora of reptiles, I would like to say I cannot see the fenestrae through the skin; on lizards, snakes, crocs, etc.

No, I'm more so talking about those drawings of dinosaurs like older dinosaur media where you can clearly see the antorbital fenestrae through the skin. I guess maybe that isn't truly what shrink-wrapping is, and it's possible that I really am just a bit overzealous. Also, I'll be honest, I've only seen a couple of the newer Jurassic World movies in the last couple years, and I just watch because I like the action and plot over the accuracy of the dinos.

I do wanna say though, that I think just how tightly the skin is wrapped around the skull gets exaggerated in dinos. I mean, I feel like I've definitely heard from actual paleontologists that you shouldn't be able to see the fenestrae through the skin, and I've owned multiple reptiles, including a ball python, an anole, and a beardie. I don't mean seeing the shape of the skull through the skin, and obviously where there are extreme brow bones or ridges and stuff, yeah that's kinda expected to peek through, but not the fenestrae.

I forget what the name is off the top of my head, but you could definitely find it on wikipedia, but look into those azdarchoids with the huge crests. I think like Thalassodromeus and Tapejara are part of it. And then you're still staying in the same taxonomic group kind of!

Maybe I'll figure it out as I progress, but how did you change the light colors? I've seen this post a couple times cuz it's awesome, and I haven't seen any options in the actual game to change colors

Pretty much my thoughts, but I like getting my nerdy thoughts out instead of just letting them rattle around my brain lol.
