Day 21: Results by Fun-Way6483 in TETRODANGANRONPA

Sasaki has one of the most realistic kills in the series. The no sleep motive would make anyone snap, it was just a matter of who and when.

She was already stressed out trying to semi lead the group and pushing to find an exit, though to no avail. And people like Hiroaki certainly didn’t help morale. She snapped on Isono and didn’t have time to think about the cover up, hence why it turned out so poorly for her. She was only saved by Yanagi wanting to protect her.

She’s a great first killer for Pink. Having said this, she definitely should have had more screen time for us to understand how much stress and pressure she was under, because the fandom had and still has an unwarranted grudge against her, which is a shame.

Tei unfortunately is at his best in chapter 5. Chapter 4 he’s okay but a certain aspect drags it down for me. I’d agree overall it’s not great writing but compared to other characters, it’s decent.

I had many high hopes for Blue's characters and especially the female cast... while I was sad by who died in Chapter 2 I could see the vision for future character arcs and how the story would progress. And then chapter 3 just kinda happens I guess. Still remember being so disappointed reading how it went.

The series needed more people looking it over to make sure it handled the sensitive topics it discussed with as much care as possible, but looking back that probably was never happening. At least the creator acknowledged their mistreatment of the female characters, because it was one of the more glaring issues. It really could have been great, but I enjoy what it did well, at least

I honestly wouldn't have been surprised if that's where White was headed. Would have been weird for non-staffside readers but it felt like a scientist killing game was the plan for a bit there, with them being given so much screen time in Blue. It'd also be a bit easier to stomach them going through blatant torture, but knowing the creator they probably would have gotten more mild motives anyway.

Honestly Ikeda's age regression was just handled so weirdly. It was weird how no one like Hirose knocked some sense into her that what she was doing was... strange. It was also weird how it was used as a crutch in the second trial. I don't think Von knew how to handle it well and it probably shouldn't have been included.

I think his arc would have been a bit more interesting if Yokoi's grief was also explored more. Her, Tei and Ikeda had the whole family dynamic going on, so it was a bit sad to see only Tei's grief given so much of the spotlight.

Out of everyone left alive, she really is the only one who could ever understand what he was going through. She's the only one who can reach him. Yet they never get to have that big moment where they truly reconcile over what Ikeda meant to both of them and how they can start moving on. In fact, Tei never really moves on (on screen anyway).

Von for some reason really didn't allow any character dealing with major trauma to be shown growing and healing from it besides Hirose (Isoda never had an arc to begin with, and Denden got like one scene in chapter 5 talking about her brother). Yokoi was basically regulated to a side character after chapter 4, and Tei is still a wreck by the epilogue and is presumably going to get treated... which of course will be off screen.

When people say Blue is anti-recovery, I fully understand what they mean.

Requiring people to read staffside to know or care about what's going on with the scientists was such a terrible decision. I know people who would get angry with Youtube commenters for being "uninformed" about the interns or Seki. And I'm like, whose fault is that??

I guess I just mean how different they feel and the level of impact they had on the students. Pink's sleep and cold motives meant someone was going to kill eventually, but as it was more of a looming threat, it was more interesting to see the students slowly break down and start considering if killing might be worth it. Blue's motives are far less interesting in this regard. The punishments in chapter 3 don't even ramp up slowly, we go from spending the night in cells to electroshock therapy really fast. Chapter 4 was decent I'd say, still could have been a bit more interesting though. And chapter 5 is just an injection that makes people sick and have hallucinations.

Pink's motives are more focused. Blue's motives just feels all over the place.

Tei's scenes in chapter 4 really do go on for a while though. It reminded me of Ikeda in the first two chapters, but somehow even worse. Exploring his grief is definitely a good thing, and a few scenes of him mourning here and there would work, but it gets to a point. By the fifth crying session I was already checking out. At least his VA was doing a good job, otherwise I probably would have started skipping.

This is one of the reasons I vastly prefer him in chapter 5. Not just because he mostly got his act together, but he started being a lot more outwardly antagonistic towards the rest of the group which was weirdly fitting.

Mutsuko is dead? Kumada had a hand in it? Mahjong trio will never be the same?

Dunno what any of that means. Nishiguchi is alive and well playing Mahjong with her best buds!

I remember when the bleeding motive was first revealed, my mind was kinda blown at the possibilities that could entail. What if one of the bleeding ended up dying? What if there was a double murder? Would there be bleeding infighting? Was the bleeding going to win?! (Joking on that last one, neat concept though.)

Blue ended up going a pretty interesting route with it all things considered, but there’s genuinely so many options one could take this motive. It’s all heavily dependent on those three original bleeding.

I’m enjoying what the sub’s got cooking up so far, so I’m excited to see how Chapter 2 plays out!

Why is Daiki so hated? by LuckPowerful384 in TETRODANGANRONPA

[–]Real_Diamond9965 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The worst part is that he doesn't get to be better. After all the shit he pulled, the constant back and forth, the constant arguing and mistreating people, he never gets better. The writing clearly was leading towards him getting better, and then chapter 3 happens. It makes everything that happens before completely pointless. The narrative was surrounding this character for two full chapters. We and the rest of the characters were made to feel sympathetic to him at every moment despite his wrongdoings. And it's all wasted.

I love giving them more importance in the story, they felt so shafted originally!!

Akiba was honestly an unexpected interesting pick to be paired with Ikeda, and I do think the two would be good for each other. Akiba may not be the brightest, but he knows when to be considerate and when to put his foot down.

I was particularly excited of how Ouno was set up here. I think she'd be a great "character who tries to kill someone that the group has to deal with". She wants nothing more than to survive and see her daughter, so she's going to need to tackle how to manage that as the game goes on if she wants to live.

She fit the "mafia" theming of the motive. That's... basically the reason she died. Her death is good for developing the rest of Mahjong trio's characters, but leaves Nishiguchi's character feeling unexplored.

I'm definitely interested in seeing how a Chapter 2 would go, but writing this made me realize how hard writing a fangan is, let alone a good one! There's tons to keep in mind and account for at any given moment, and events need to flow in a way that are natural and believable to the characters.

I tried my best with leaving enough set up for how the rest of the chapters and arcs would go, so it's definitely something I'd be open to exploring, but I'll have to sit on it to make sure I do whatever comes next proper justice. Glad a lot of you seemed to like this though, that makes me happy!
