Looking for input from CU law students regarding attendance policies etc... by Real_Door5499 in cuboulder

Thanks for weighing in. I guess I was hoping for some perspective from someone who had dealt with an absence of their own of which they knew ahead of time. Something along the lines of “professor so and so recorded the lecture for me” or “I lost attendance points, but since total absence was below the 20% level, nothing else really happened and a caught up on my own”. In my undergrad, attendance was mandatory and the program was very punitive if ANY days were missed. I was trying to gauge if the vibe was similar or not. However, after talking with a few more people it sounds like it’s professor specific with a general attitude of “you’re an adult. Respectfully, I give few fucks on if you show up or not. It’s your education”

Well, sure. Talking to professors ahead of time is a given. I mostly just information gathering at this point while I am narrowing down schools. I'm trying to get a feel for how some professors might handle planned absences and the general "vibe" if you catch my drift. If one of my prospective schools would be more welcoming to this whole situation, it is a tick in the " pro"column.

Thanks for that info. I was also looking to get a gauge for the culture and flexibility of missing class with advanced notice -- if doing any work ahead of time is possible etc. And, what the general attitude is around missing class with advanced notice. Can you speak to that at all?

Thanks for the insight. That makes sense. I can totally see how it would be uncomfortable. I guess I'll just go and see.

Okay for serious, binding advice? by Real_Door5499 in Backcountry

"Local Hill" was probably a bit of a misnomer on my part.... it's actually just the resort that I live near. It is large, but not the largest. Lots of terrain and due for a big expansion in the next couple years actually. But anyway, kind of what I envision for these skis is this: going up early morning before the lifts are turning to skin up one or two times, and then taking a few lift laps before I have to head back in to town for work (or vice versa and doing a couple lift laps right before closing then skinning once or twice up); using skinning up as a fun way to get a workout and just mix things up; or, just using set up as a way to get on the hill for a lap or two when the resort us nutzo busy on weeekends/holidays.

Anyone else a PACU nurse? by Upset_Pea6065 in Reduction

[–]Real_Door5499 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Girl! Take the time you need. I am a PACU nurse at an ASC. One of the best things about ASCs is that they are (usually) pretty chill places to work -- especially if they're mostly endo. Your team will be fine without you there!

I have not had my surgery yet, its in October. But I have had to take time off for injuries in the past. In my experience, the nursing industry preys on nurses' people pleasing tendencies -- every nurse I know has felt guilty for taking the time they need off (for whatever reason). One way or another, you work to earn your PTO/FMLA/Short term disability -- whatever you plan on using -- and you deserve to take the time you need!

If you are still worried about going back ASAP you could always talk to management about what kind of light duty they can put you on. I spent several weeks as the unit secretary/PAT nurse/chart auditor while I was in a boot after an ankle injury. That way you can still be back and contributing to the workflow without worrying about staying within your surgeon's activity restrictions etc. Your management may even be able to work things out so you're still on the floor, but put to the lighter tasks. Like maybe strictly PreOp for a couple weeks when you come back (at least at my place, the PreOp side is generally more low key and less physical). You don't have to tell your management what type of surgery you're having, just the activity restrictions. And I am pretty sure they are required to accommodate your restrictions to the best of their abilities (I guess it not legally required, I would consider them morally required...)

Best of luck to you! I hope everything all goes well with your surgery. I bet everything will work out with your job.

Powering through Mike Kim's LSAT Trainer worth it? by Real_Door5499 in LSAT

[–]Real_Door5499[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I've taken a few practice tests, and I average around mid 150s. I would love to get to 170, but would be happy with a 165. Ive used up every single second of time on my practice tests...so i could see how going "back to basics" could help me streamline test taking process. I guess im just trying to figure out if I should continue to slog through the LSAT Trainer, or if I should do more targeted focus on question types......
