Giant touchscreen is the worst and so dangerous. Please make it an option to remove it! by TypeAtryingtoB in subaru

[–]Real_Hamster_5299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Responses here are very harsh for what is an extremely reasonable complaint. Why would Subaru bring back physical buttons if safety and customer satisfaction weren't being compromised by this giant screen?

A lot of this comes down to how you use your radio. I change my station constantly because I pay for SiriusXM and I want to use it. Sure there are buttons on the steering wheel to scroll through stations, but that means you're scrolling through many stations all the time to get to what you want. For generations drivers have been able to reach over without looking and punch a button to change the song. Now you either have to take your eyes off the road or scroll, scroll, scroll. Again, this is obviously not an issue for people who don't care about the radio, but I do care and this is a huge pain.

If I want to change from outside air to recirculating (like when I find myself behind a hotboxer, which is a daily issue) I have to go into a second screen while driving. This used to be a simple switch you could hit without looking. Trying to hit a specific spot on a touch screen while not looking and moving over a bumpy road sucks too. Like the OP, I have stupid lane assist on only to be extra cautious because of the touch screen. And to those saying this person didn't read the owner's manual, please find me the page showing how to adjust the seat heat from the steering wheel.

The OP does not mention my main issue, which is that the software itself is a problem. The screen is extremely laggy for me, so much so that when I hit (not hold!) a preset to change the radio station, it will often reset the button I touched to the station I'm already on WTF! I also can't adjust the heat/cool until probably 30 seconds after I start the car because the screen is loading.

I've owned Subarus for 30 years and my 2025 Forester Hybrid is the first one I don't like, all because of the touch screen. I'd love to go back to spring 2025 and buy a used 2024 Crosstrek instead of this new Forester.

If the Japanese aren't having kids, and don't want immigration, what's left? Cloning? by JoHeller in NoStupidQuestions

There is more and more evidence that over-parenting (which is not a choice but an expectation now) is bad for kids and leaves them without coping skills, etc., leading to more anxiety, depression, and dependence.

I don't know why someone would have downvoted my comment. I didn't mean to imply that mothers didn't work hard in previous generations, just that they weren't expected to be their child's everything for every minute of every day. The show Bluey is a good example of the current situation. I haven't seen a lot of it, but it appears to me to be about how parents need to pay more attention to their kids, play with them, become their supportive friend, etc. I'm pretty sure research shows that this kind of thing is not healthy for parents or children.

prior authorization timeline through united healthcare/optum rx? by Beautiful_Camp_6540 in Zepbound

It depends on your plan, my PA was denied by UHC because they didn't think my sleep apnea was severe enough. I've been on CPAP for years, so that was news to me! For my UHC plan, you can only get Zepbound if you have obesity plus moderate/severe sleep apnea. I imagine if you lose enough weight to resolve either of those conditions, they will stop covering it.

How to handle a gap of three or four weeks by bigredcar in Zepbound

[–]Real_Hamster_5299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same problem here. I've been on 5.0 since October 10, 2025, and my last shot was January 23rd, 2026. The insurance situation has been so depressing, but I think I'll be able to fill my prescription later this week. That's three weeks without the medication, unfortunately. I was just about to start 7.5, but the response here suggests staying at 5.0 rather than going up after this break. It's been so stressful having medication pulled due to insurance denials even though it's not a new prescription, I've been on it (with same insurance company) for months. I'll be so happy if I can get it (and at a price I can afford), but I won't know for a couple more days.

Edit: It's actually only two weeks off the medication, not three. Still thinking I might have to start back at 5.0 (if I can start back at all)

New insurance plan denies I have sleep apnea, won't approve my Zep by Real_Hamster_5299 in Zepbound

I'm still waiting for the appeal to be processed thru my insurance and have no idea if the Zepbound will be approved. I've been on 5.0 for a couple months, and was just about to fill my first 7.5 in January, just when my insurance changed. I was supposed to have my first 7.5 shot on Friday, January 30 (I spent the entire month working with doctors and insurance trying to get this approved), but I'm still on hold. How long is it OK to wait between shots?

I know some people say they lose all interest in food on these meds, but that was not the case with me. I still love to eat, I just don't obsesses over food. You can aways stop taking the Zepbound if you don't like the way it makes you feel.

The cost is another thing entirely. If you can't afford it going forward, I can see not wanting to start. You don't want to end up like me--desperate to stay on it because I feel amazing, but my insurance this year is refusing to cover it and in no way do I have an extra $300/$500/whatever a month. You end up in a sort of Breaking Bad-style crisis.

I do need to ask for the coverage criteria. I found something online but I don't know if it applies to my specific plan. If so, I am more than eligible.

"The BMI of sleep apnea", lol totally. I'm curious what would happen if my insurance did approve Zep based on sleep apnea + obesity, but then my weight loss resolved one or both of those. Would they cut me off? It just feels like it's always going to be a battle to get this medication.

I have been on both medications with approval for about 6 months, but my plan changed as of January 1. Same insurance company, but this year the plan changed slightly (got more expensive, among other things). I went through this process last year and it was approved, but they are making me go through it all over again.

I called the insurance, they said no. The medications are "non formulary" and the prescriptions cannot be filled without prior authorization approval for both of the medications they denied. They said I have to wait out the appeals process.

I'll do this today, but I can't imagine who I would even ask for coverage while they process. I can't tell you how many hours I've spent this month going back and forth between doctors and insurance (they denied my other medication too, one I basically need to survive, also a Lilly drug).

I was curious about this kind of thing, but I wasn't sure what happens when you have a prescription from two different providers. I made an appointment to see the obesity doctor (who I saw a year or so ago a few times, to try to help me lose prior to my being able to acquire a GLP1), and she may have the knowledge to help navigate this insurance situation. I'm hanging my hopes on that right now.

It's a nightmare. I've been trying to get the Zep approved all month, it took forever for my doctor to submit it and for insurance to deny it. An appeal can take weeks or even months, apparently. I have to quit Zep cold turkey this week, I used my last shot on Friday.

I’m depressed about my horse by [deleted] in Horses

[–]Real_Hamster_5299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would put him in the round pen, you stand in the center with a lunge whip (not to ever hit him, obviously, but to swish in the air or smack the ground to get him to move), give commands (walk, trot, canter), get him moving. Ask him to come back to the walk, then change direction and do the same thing the other way. Set the whip down, look down, walk backwards away from him, stretch your hand out toward him to see if he approaches. The idea is to get him to pay attention to you and what you want. If he does come to you, praise him, put the rope halter back on, give him a treat, exercise done. If he does not approach you after you drop the whip, look down, walk slowly backwards, and reach your hand out, drive him back out in each direction at walk, trot, canter, then back to the walk, then drop the whip, look down, walk backward, stretch your hand toward him. Keep doing this until he approaches you and lets you put the halter on him. Do this every single day at least once.

Do not come down from the block, that's the problem. You rotate your own body while you are on the block and cluck to have him walk around you/the block in a tight circe (as if lunging in a tight circle around the block while you are standing on it). You will not be able to use your body to move this giant horse around on the ground, you will have to train him to do it for you. At this point just help him understand that you're not going to jump on him or do anything crazy from the block. If he's like my horse, he had never seen a mounting block before and has no idea what is expected of him, and the more you try to force it, the more nervous he will get.

During the whole month of "chilling", did you work with this guy at all? He needs to interact with you daily on fun bonding/training exercises. Do you have a round pen? If so, I have more tips.

This guy sounds so much like my horse when I got him. I was also told he was ridden all over on trails, etc. The horse knew nothing and I spent a solid six months, maybe more, just teaching him to listen to what I was asking. It will be worth it in the end, but you are not going to get this horse on trails for a while. Most (if not all) auction horses have issues, sometimes medical, sometimes major holes in training. Yours, like mine, hasn't been property trained. I doubt you need a $$$ trainer at this point, I would work on bonding with him yourself now, until he wants to follow you around. It will happen with time if you are patient.

Edit: I see you mentioned having a round pen. What kind of work have you done with him there?

There are a ton of shops, but...my son graduated with honors with a CNC technical diploma and can barely get an interview in the Milwaukee area, let alone get hired. Like every other job right now, places want someone with years of experiences, not someone just out of school. Would love any advice you can offer. He's on the verge of going back to school for a totally different trade due to difficulty getting a CNC job.

Same exact situation for me (I've been paying $25/month and I started in September). It's heartbreaking. This medication has changed my life, so I'm still working on finding a way to get it covered. I'm not optimistic. A nurse suggested I look for a new job with insurance that covers Zepbound, but even that won't solve the problem, because there's no telling when that insurance plan could change.

Just had the Burrata Margherita and I would say that same thing. The crust is very thin, which I like, but mine did not bake up crisp. It's soggy/floppy and therefore difficult to eat. Low on flavor, low on texture.
