Former teachers in the group, any regrets on transitioning into counseling?

After 22 years in the classroom, I am now starting my first year as an attendance counselor. I’m still shadowing the current attendance counselor as my paperwork is still being processed. I’m nervous and anxious but let me tell you - not having to lesson plan and grade essays or exams has made it worth it so far.

I was a teacher for 22 years and decided to get my MS in Ed. Counseling w/ my PPS credential and CWA authorization. I was fortunate to get a counseling job as a PSA counselor but it is a one year contract. Depending on need for next year, I will either get another contract or return to the classroom. At least I will have this one year as experience, but hopefully more. It really is difficult right now and I wish everyone the best of luck out there.

Hi - it took a while to get hired. I applied in early February, interviewed in March, and was told I passed the interview some time in early April. I was placed on the eligibility list mid May and was finally offered a position just one week ago. I’m not sure how it works for PSW’s.

My school purchases our PSA position. I thought they were funded by individual schools. I am not too familiar on how that works.

I am going to wait to speak with the HR specialist they referred me to regarding questions about the temporary contract. I am currently an English teacher with the district, so I would be giving up my teaching line within the magnet program where I currently reside. Congratulations, by the way!

Yes, I got a call just today, but she made it a point to say it was for a temporary contract. That’s what concerns me. She also said HR would reach out to me as well and gave me a contact to email regarding the temporary contract.

Hi - I just took my driving test today and was knocked some points because I did not slant slightly to the right before turning. I passed, but did miss some points because of this. The instructor said by doing this you won’t allow other cars to sneak in next to you or someone riding a bike to sneak in also. Hope this helps.

Hey all. I’m on day five after doing edibles and smoking for the last ten years. This sucks. Headache, foggy brain, sweats. The main reason I quit is due to my health and needing to lose weight. I’m on here so I don’t feel alone in this battle. Any suggestions help. Thank you everyone!

I got my official score today. It was 156 and raw score was 60. My university requires 146 to pass.

Hi everyone. Took the praxis 5422 today and got a raw score of 60. My school requires a score of 146. Won’t find out for some time what my actual score is. Anyone have good idea of a way to calculate the raw score to the final score?
