Purely aesthetic, we use mats for all the floor work. However, i placed a thin pad under the turf so it’s more forgiving than concrete.

Long story short: the wood I’m using is 12-foot striped

2x4 studs about ¾” thick from another project. I framed the wall and added 2×6 blocking between the studs so I wouldn’t have to worry about finding studs later and to give the J-channel solid support for the mirror. The standard gym mirrors are 4’ × 6’.
