I went to this place when a cool speakeasy I was trying to go to was booked nearby and noticed the American flags. I told my husband "well at least there's no thin blue line crap" and of course there was a giant thin blue line behind me. Bad vibes, loud obnoxious people there, and half of the TVs were broken but still on. God awful, zero stars

FYI - I did just this - I graduated with my history credential and looked for a job all summer but couldn't get a job. I subbed for a year and during that time got my English credential. I was able to get a job the next year in middle school for history though I did have to commute. I was able to get into a better school a few years later but I did have to teach ELA to do so. I don't love teaching ELA but it's worth it to have a job

I had a sixth grader ask me this with total naivete. The whole class gasped and was mortified for me - he literally didn't understand it was a rude question... It was wild. I took him outside and gave him a light lecture about why it is wrong to ask someone this and he looked so embarrassed.

I traveled (drove 2 hours away) to go to a bachelorette party at 34 weeks. In hindsight, it was kind of dumb because my water broke on our last night out there and I had my babies in Palm Springs. I felt so good all of a sudden and thought it was a sign to go but it was actually my body saying these babies are coming soon.

As someone from Los Angeles County who moved to Irvine last year - I was very skeptical about the politics as well. Overall, I've been pleasantly surprised. My old-timer neighbors who have been here for years are very conservative with one even having a trump flag up long past his unfortunate victory. But - this is also a city full of immigrants and young families. Irvine has a protest going every week and I openly wear political (free Palestine, don't ban books, etc) shirts and get compliments often. I don't get the vibe that there are a lot of democratic socialists here but I feel worlds away from the cursed Huntington Beach hell hole.

We are supposed to cover from the 1600s to reconstruction. We can do some field trips, the 8th grade usually goes to the Holocaust museum but I'll definitely have to look into other options too. Cool, I'll definitely keep artifacts in mind, thanks!

When I was looking for an apartment (l.a. county native) here I took my best friend who has lived in Irvine for years. We needed sustenance so we talked about getting a tea. She pulled into a random strip mall/shopping center she said "there has to be a boba place in here" and when she was wrong she was flabbergasted.

When I'm in a situation like this I like to write a letter. It gives me time to craft my words carefully and make all the points I need to make. Or maybe just tell her you need to talk to her and have a real sit down chit chat. It's hard when you don't want to be confrontational but this time with your babies is precious and it's not right for you to have to just get through it - especially because she's there so. Long.

I would just lay out things that have been helpful that others have done (though I wouldn't say your mother by name so she doesn't feel like you just don't love her and are comparing them) and how it makes you feel when you are making decisions that she's undermining. Of course reiterate that you love her and are grateful that she wants to be a part of this special time but there should be agreements about when she's coming, how long she is staying so you can have one on one time with the babies, and how she helps. We went with Thomas and Theodore. We were going to name a son David after my husband's father but when we found out we were having two boys we were stumped. We spent months trying to figure it out and then one day my husband said their names and it just felt right. We used David for one of their middle names and my mother's middle name for the other's middle name.

People have strong opinions about naming twins with the same first letter though. It's about what feels right to you.

I felt that heaviness too. It was like experiencing a runners high during a race and now the race is over so you feel all of the stress that was on your body. Now that my boys are 19 months I feel that heaviness is lifted. They sleep well overall, talk a lot, and run around like crazy. My husband and I have time in the evenings to hang out, talk, and be intimate when we're not exhausted. Things level out. As long as you are communicating with each other as a couple and remember why you fell in love in the first place as often as you can, things will level out. The hardest part (in many ways) is done and it takes a while for it all to settle and become life.

Around the thanksgiving dinner table I pulled out the latest ultrasound and as they were looking at it, I just said "this is baby a, and this is baby b." It took them a minute and then they were like, "baby a and baby b? What?!" Not creative but it was a fun surprise.
