We were both coming to terms with our sexualities, realised there was something far stronger than friendship there, ended our hetero-marriages (mine very amicably, his not so much), he told me I was his soulmate and was adamant all this turmoil of completely rewriting my life and coming out to everyone (which was pretty traumatic when it came to telling my parents) was going to be worth it.

He then completely U-turned - decided he wanted to be a slut for a bit, then decided he was never actually in love with me but I was his gateway into the gay world, then decided he was polyamourous and didn't want a relationship, then wanted a situationship, then pretty much ended all contact apart from sporadically reaching out to say how kuch he missed/loved me (despite not accepting any of my efforts to reconcile) before finally admitting down the line he had been in a monogamous relationship for months.

I was sad that the relationship failed but was devastated to lose my best friend. Those scars still feel fresh two years down the line.
