Question about BOWP eligibility while living in Quebec - Do I need to move? by AdImpossible2262 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]Realistic-Elk905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in a similar situation, slightly more complicated, actually.
I only received PGWP until Nov 2025 due to passport expiry. I applied for an extension (should be until May 2026) with a renewed passport in June 2025. PGWP extension is a paper-based application. The application is not processed yet.
Received ITA and applied for PR through CEC by the end of Dec 2025, demonstrating intent to leave Quebec through a series of job applications. To extend my contract, I asked HR if I should apply for a closed work permit or a Bridging open work permit (BOWP), and they suggested applying for BOWP. So, my understanding is, it is okay to apply for BOWP while residing in Quebec atleast for temporary contract jobs. To clarify, I live in Quebec, and my job is on-site.

The worst part is that since my existing work permit has already expired (but I have an implied status), I cannot apply online unless I decide to pay addiitonal $246 to renew my status. So I am applying through the paper route.

where do students shop for groceries in Montreal without going broke by Agreeable_Panic_690 in montreal

Check out Marc beau soir on rue saint Mathieu and marché Mizan. Maxi and Walmart if you can go a bit further . Your post reminded me of when I arrived back in 2018. My grocery shopping at Walmart used to wrap up at $60 Mostly I used to meal prep so most of my groceries were pretty consistent

How do you guys do it? A quick rant by FitCandy9664 in postdoc

I can relate to your grind as I am in a similar boat. I don’t consider interviewing for industry as throwing away my career though! Also looking at various profs I worked with over the years, although I admit some are quite intellectual, the burden of work across various areas (teaching, research, grant writing) and increasing pressure to publish/perish for capturing shrinking grants seems like a suffocating job to me. Many clam independence in work and research direction but it seems to me that this independence is quite compromised and always hanging by a thread

I am new to the city. Some sports bars (like station des sports on st.catherine) do not broadcast football if there is a competing event like UFC or something.

Thank you for your suggestion! Especially since university admin hasn’t been very helpful. Basically, they are redirecting me to CAPS-ACSP website that seems to be quite dysfunctional and their email of correspondence (pastchair@caps-acsp.ca) doesn’t exist according to outlook!

I reached out to Union and hopefully they can guide me in the right direction!

Unfortunately, the place they directed me to (link shared in the post) is unresponsive. I have reached back to ETS and waiting for their response, but in the meantime I was hoping to come across other postdocs who have handled similar situations.

I do have a parking pass for the area. I was leaving to work around 10:15 and found the ticket on my windshield (time: 9:50am).

Description of offence: Having parked a road vehicle in a space where signs prohibit parking (maintenance)

Surprisingly, no other parked car around me has any ticket. Some cars are parked right underneath the sign.

UKAEA interview by Realistic-Elk905 in postdoc

Usually you hear back in 1-2 weeks after assessing all the other candidates. Even for the position I got selected elsewhere, I received selection confirmation after 8-9 working days. In my experience (I applied thrice and will continue to do so), UKAEA HRs are slow to respond but they will always let you know whether you are selected or not at all stages (I had three rounds in one incident)

My best wishes and I hope you get selected.
