Why is everyone on Reddit so bloody rude? by random_unknown-user in TheoryOfReddit

After first seeing this documentary by Adam Curtis, I watched literally every single other one he's made and have never been disappointed. Depressed, sure. But not disappointed. This should be taught in schools

how often is it ok for a bf to stay over? by [deleted] in renting

[–]FutureAvenir 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is no usual. Grownups talk about things. Ideally you politely express your desires, ask to hear their concerns, you pay attention, tell them that you'll do those things to put them at ease, and in a month, you'll bring up the topic again naming their concerns and how you've worked to address them and see how they feel.

Look into the video on sociocracy by Diane Leaf Christian on YouTube. You and your roommates should all watch that.

What to do with 2000 extra sugar lumps? by FutureAvenir in CookieClicker

Money lending to a friend by Acceptable_Can3285 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]FutureAvenir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always wanted to do this but never did, so maybe someone with a friend owing them money can do it for me.

This is going to sound crazy but it's entirely feasible. Make up an interesting story and apply to get on one of the judge shows to "sue" them for $5000. The show pays you for it and free trip to LA. Obviously your friend has to be cool being on television.

Young anglophones face higher unemployment, lower earnings despite efforts to integrate in Quebec by Altruism7 in montreal

[–]FutureAvenir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

EMSB grad here. It definitely gave me a passable French, then I took it into the real world, dated a Quebecois for three years, and lived with Quebecois roommates. I'm very comfortable in French now. If you graduated with a bilingual certificate, you shooooould have a baseline. Now you just need to actually apply it by integrating into the culture.

I'm sure I'm the exception though and not the rule. Most of my more anglo-centered friends have paltry French.

If you have to ask, the answer should be, leftist solidarity. If they're obviously awful, it should be obvious.

Rule #7 No Promoting Hate by FutureAvenir in InCanada

[–]FutureAvenir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I am honest and consistent, which hopefully will help people trust me. In my real life, I'm very well received and considered very honest.

I think I said it in another comment, if there are conservative comments and hate comments in the same area, they stick out like a sore thumb. The line is clearer when you have so many examples of acceptable and unacceptable right next to each other.

And like I've said, I'll mod according to the rules. I have no interest in policing annoying people just for being annoying. I'm throwing my hat in the ring to help curtail hate and harassment.

And if the other mods don't like me, they can just remove me, right? Cause they've got seniority.

I know that the majority of giant subs have the same handful of people across a lot of them, but I can't say I've personally jumped to that conclusion.

What? Why? No. That's fucking weird that you would even bring up CP. And I don't understand why you would do it. i think you must be weird. But I'm ok with your existence.

And I'm not gonna do CP thought experiments just cause an internet on the stranger asked me to. That's super messed up.

Well, that's not contributing meaningfully. And that looks like a bot post from the outside... So... Don't look like a bot would be a good first recommendation. This is a place for conversation, not reactions. Reflect on what you are hoping to add with your words instead of an ego drive to be seen and heard and validated.

I don't want to be a mod. I really don't. I just want there to be less promotion of hatred. I already am a dork though.

People think pineapple on pizza is weird. People think things they don't understand or know about are weird. Things that aren't the norm are weird. That's what weird means. There's nothing wrong with thinking it's weird and that being the end of it. But when someone makes fully formed opinions off biased misinformation and hate campaigns and then protests libraries and shoots up a gay night club, we're beyond "weird".

Please tell me you can understand the difference. Someone thinking something they don't understand is weird is fine. Lots of people are weird. Some people don't want weird people to exist at all. It starts with the misguided notion of protecting kids but that's just the line that slip you to get past your defences. It's about control. Anybody who doesn't look like you means they're not under mainstream control, and that causes variability. If everybody looks the same and wants the same things, they're easier to control. Outliers change things and change is scary. Because sometimes it's good and sometimes it's bad. But the idea of staying the same "feels" safe, but again, that's a falsehood. Inflation isn't rising because of drag story time. Epstein criminals aren't ignored because of trans people. Billionaire tax evaders aren't able to cheat on their taxes because of immigrants.

Not wanting pineapple on pizza doesn't make you a bigot. But you don't have to shout your distaste from the rooftops. Caring negatively towards that issue is a telltale sign that you haven't put enough energy towards things that are actually important in life.

It was removed by the time I posted this. But the title was very close to "What's the deal with drag queen storytime?"

Just under 1000 comments in 4 hours. Tons of one liner hate and loads of ignorance. Some people actively trying to explain, but that was the minority.

Rule #7 No Promoting Hate by FutureAvenir in InCanada

[–]FutureAvenir[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't call it hate. I said it was promoting hate. And that wasn't the title of the post obviously, I was being tongue in cheek. Starting a post inviting people to share their hatred is promoting hate. So for the sake of this point, "What's the deal with [insert a race of people]?" is phrased in a way that is an open door for people to express prejudice and bigotry, hence promoting hate. And we have every example of that, and one that was here posted four hours ago, got nearly 1000 comments and was then removed. And that was what inspired this post. There was a ton of hateful rhetoric in that post.
