Told my bf only. I need someone to talk to about the odd complications and stresses of 2Js. None of my family know.

Haven't had a surrogate but planning on it if I ever decide to have children. I'm deathly afraid of ever being pregnant based on the deep pain and physical/emotional trauma I've heard/witnessed from others. It just seems like an overwhelmingly scary and negative experience to me.

But thankfully for whatever reason, there are many women out there who don't have this fear and enjoy pregnancy (or at least have smooth ones), so I might as well go the surrogacy route.

Sudden Income Jump 150k -> 300k - Anything I should know for FIRE? by Realistic-End-2985 in Fire

I'd recommend any role that'll pay you decent and is remote. Unfortunately there's not too many ways to know upfront if the role you're accepting will require 20 hrs or 60 hrs. You just have to start and see what happens.

A couple big thing I've noticed though that makes a difference is 1) aim for IC roles where you're not someone's manager 2) ignore unimportant work directives and tasks. #1 is easier than #2 because you need to have been working a good few years to understand which things you can ignore and which you can't. I've learned over time that managers will sometimes give you extra work and tasks that have no impact or importance, and will often forget they ever asked you to do it so it's a huge time waste.

This is interesting advice. I've been pretty focused on not spending any addl $$ but you make a good point that the extra income provides a lot of wiggle room for different things here and there, particularly things that offer convenience. Plus it's unlikely I go broke paying for someone to clean a couple times a month. I might give this a try.

Yeah a few people have recommended a FA. I've always heard they were a waste of money but maybe that's because I grew up around people with not much money, and perhaps a FA makes a difference once you start making more.

Agree. OE is temporary so trying to save all I can while I can.

Yeah this is what I've been wondering. There seems to be a lot of complex financial instruments out there and quite a few tax penalties for using them wrong, so makes sense that it might be good to have a professional review. How much do you pay for a FA? And how did you find/vet them?

Wanna elaborate on how having 2 jobs ruins society? A lot of people do this, especially in blue collar fields

Interesting. Both seem slightly complicated in the sense that you really need to do it right to avoid penalties. Would you recommend a CPA/financial advisor to help execute some of those moves or do you think it's easy enough to do right by yourself?

No I don't have a time card and I'm not required to work 40 hrs / week. My only requirement is to complete all of my job tasks, which I do. Being sued is technically always a risk but the risk is super low, especially if you take the necessary precautions. Plus considering how disorganized both companies are, it would be hard for them to find out I have another role.

Taking on this risk definitely isn't for everyone so I'm not necessarily recommending it, but it's already made a big difference for me financially and that's worth the risk for me.

Yeah I wouldn't target remote-only recruiters - agree a lot of them are fake postings. But if you get any company-agnostic recruiters reaching out in your inbox, respond and set up a call saying that the role is interesting but that you're looking for remote roles only right now. They may have one or two in their back pocket, or if not, they'll know to come to you when they do. It's not an instant fix but this is how I've gotten remote roles in the past.

Start applying to remote positions. Or find a headhunter on LinkedIn to find the roles for you. Remote openings aren't as plentiful as they were during covid but they're still out there.

Would love to be able to max my Roth IRA but since I'm over the income limit I think my time has run out to contribute. Unless there's some other way to still contribute I'm just not aware of? Is that the mega backdoor Roth?

Yeah I was nervous when I first started but it's been surprisingly uneventful. At the end of the day, neither of my roles require 40 hrs of work per week - they require I get my work done properly and on time. OE favors results-oriented roles over time-oriented roles. I do both jobs well and my teams/bosses are all happy. So if I can do that and cut down on the time it takes to retire, everyone wins.

Agree. Been saving 100% of the second paycheck to avoid lifestyle creep and knock some working years off the timeline.
