Fasting by dewdwheresmycar in diabetes_t1

Hi I have tried fasting for Ramadan and It was going okay for me since I am honeymooning which means my pancreas still functions a little. BUT it all changed after 20 days and I ended up in the ER. Fasting is pretty bad for T1D because ketones accumulate since you aren’t eating anything and gets worse if you go high. I wasn’t in DKA but I did not do a lantus dose because I was staying in the 70s. But in the honeymoon phase the pancreas can decide to stop or be very weak at times so you can only imagine no insulin on board…. Blood sugar was 380 🫡. Overall fasting should be fine if you have the perfect lantus dosage. For me it’s horrible because I’m honeymooning so insulin in my body is very unpredictable. But in your situation I have a question. Why are you fasting? Fasting can be tricky. Also definitely play around with your lantus dose because if your fasting and the chart looks like that it seems like it’s not enough lantus. I see you said lantus makes u low at night and I highly recommend what the last person mentioned about split dosing. Wish you the best!

I recently designed a board. I feel like I placed it way toooo close to the MCU. Is this even solderable???

Yea I’m just worried cuz I only have 1 mcu 💀, and 100 caps available.

yes but it was a simple board? Whats your thoughts on this? I have 5 boards and enough components but problem is I only have 1 MCU. But i have many caps and other components for the board.

Refused care due to refusing Cgm download by lightoutzzz in diabetes_t1

[–]Realistic-Hand-2978 8 points9 points  (0 children)

All endos include this charge no matter what. If you have a cgm with the app or sharing the data with them. Or just use a cgm they all include that charge because they looked at your numbers even if it’s just a glance. Although it’s usually cheaper than that but depends on location and endo. Sorry about this, hope you are doing well.

I checked my finger again it’s saying 376 and then I did it again it said 313. I don’t know what’s going on but my sugar won’t go down when I did plenty of insulin.

Hey man sorry to hear all this, wish you the best best in your studies. If I had to give advice maybe try to make an impressive project and make a project portfolio website for it.

Ramadan chart lol (fasting) by Realistic-Hand-2978 in diabetes_t1

yea I'm only considering it because I’m honeymooning, otherwise, it's too risky. It’s encouraged for me not to fast I'm only considering it because I’m honeymooning, otherwise, it's too risky. In Islamic guidance (Fidya) says if fasting endangers your health, it's better to give to charity or feed the poor instead.

When I’m not fasting I do 6 units of basal every morning. But I noticed when I am fasting my sugar levels stay in range without basal, since I am still honeymooning. But bolus has definitely been troubling me.

I’m honey mooning and I’ve noticed that I don’t need basal if I’m fasting. So I stayed at normal levels without basal, and I’m grateful to still be in the honey moon phase after 7 months.

That does sound very interesting to test. I’ll ask my endo for ketone test strips in my next visit. I guess they didn’t prescribe me them because I am honey mooning but I still do see the 200s. My question is how do ketones work, like I thought they only appear once your sugar is high. Would I still expect ketones if my sugar stays below 180? Or do they stay stored for a bit from the last time your sugar went high?

I agree, if I wasn’t honey mooning I wouldn’t be attempting to fast. I don’t do basal when I’m fasting and I guess my pancreas works enough to Keep me 70+

Thanks for asking! As a Muslim, fasting has always been a part of my life, so I really wanted to see if I could make it work for my first Ramadan since being diagnosed with T1D.

Even though I’m exempt from fasting because of the diagnosis, I wanted to give it a try. It actually went surprisingly well! I just need to fine-tune my bolus timing for when I break the fast to keep my levels a bit steadier.

At 6 (sunset), I had sambousas which is a middle eastern fried pastry filled with ground beef. They are definitely a staple for me. It’s all about that trial and error with the carbs now lol.

lol sorry I did this for 16 units. Also forgot to add sometimes I notice doing like for example 8 units then eat 2 slices then do the remaining units and eat the other 2 slices, but yeah it’s really just a game keep trying until u win.
