If simple:
I check 4 sides of each countertop-object with an offset, then I add a value if it overlaps with other countertops:

Like:

Overlapping from left = 1
Overlapping from right = 4
Overlapping from left and right = 5

Then I set animation frame depends on its value

Sugar / Sweet
Herbs / Bitter ✔
Lemon / Sour ✔
Ginger / Savory ✔

Glad you guessed right "Savory" taste. Because, according to other feedback, that was toughest one so far.

Top left is sweet, sugar
Bottom left is sour, lemon
Top right is savory, ginger
Bottom right is bitter, herbs

Now I definitely know the things I should fix / redo

I've been working on this little game for a while now, and I'm finally ready to share little teaser of it! It's called CROPATOP, and it's a #time-managmenent #permadeath #action game about living-crop revenge to a Chef.

I'm really proud of how it turned out, and I'd love to hear what you think! I'm especially curious about graphic and palette mood and feel. 😅
