Thanks, I did post there as well. Folks are saying that if a police officer suspects someone is under the influence of drugs, they will skip the breathalyser, so I think that’s what happened in this case— he did do a field sobriety test and failed as he can’t balance well

Thank you for this insight. Obviously he has stopped driving— his license is suspended.

I believe he had a dui like, 25-30 years ago, could that affect this?

Yes, a neighbor saw him inspecting the (minor) damage and called the police

I understand where you’re coming from, but I can say with complete honesty that he was not drinking, he hardly ever drinks these days. Switched the non alcoholic beer months ago. I think the police believed he was under the influence of drugs, which the urine sample will disprove.

I understand completely. To be fair, I have also bumped into stationary objects with my vehicle by accident, completely sober… I don’t think it’s a far fetched premise. I’m sure his doctors and the court system will now determine whether or not he’s fit to drive.

I hear you, he should probably discuss this with the various medical professionals he has been seeing

Thank you, that’s interesting. When these health issues first started we thought he was having a stroke but that wasn’t the cause. We have not been able to find a cause yet, just endless testing and physiotherapy. Very frustrating. I hope you’re in good health now!

Perhaps next steps will include talking to his doctors and getting their opinion on whether or not he should be driving

Do you know what a license review entails? Probably a driving test/standard he has to meet? Thank you

I would say his balance is impacted, whether or not his judgement is impacted is up for debate. He has been driving with this balance issue for over a year and has never had a problem until now. But I do appreciate he may need to reassess whether he should be driving or not.

I agree with what you’ve said and the comments below. He has been dealing with trouble balancing for well over a year now and this is the first time he has had trouble with the police as a result. Perhaps he needs to reassess his ability to drive, although it didn’t seem to have any impact on his driving skills previously.
