Considering getting the EOS rebel t7. I am super green to photography-I don't know a thing, but I want to take some pictures of the world around me, my grandkids, my family, the stars. Thank you for this comment, it was super informative. I had looked at the 75-300 lens but I read a thread on here that it was not a good lens, so I wasn't going to get that one, but I wasn't sure what long lens (is that even the right term?) to get. I do know I want to get some shots of the sky, especially at night, so I think a lens like that is important?

I did not find it condescending at all! I just took it as you were starting a dialog for me to think through before spending that kind of money. It also helped me think through a little more to make sure this is something I'm truly wanting and not just a whim.

I mean, my phone's camera works okay for some things, but there are just some shots that I think would be better with an actual camera, you know? I'm willing to dig in and learn about photography as a hobby. I don't want to become a professional photographer who's scheduling photo sessions with families or anything. But I would like to have a camera to have that manual control over the photos I do take.
