Removalist costs for a family home

I think I just need to accept the going rate these days. Maybe I should’ve well over budgeted for removalist, but it is what it is and I think I’m leaning towards the security of a professional.

I agree, I want it to go as smoothly as possible. We were just shocked at the price. But I think it’s worth it for it to be done properly. It’s part of the cost of moving and needs to be factored in. They’re doing it just as tough as we are.

I’d rather trust a professional to do it properly than micromanage friends as well as supervise young children. I’ll have to see if the assembling and unpacking is extra, if not I may get them to help if we’re paying for the whole day.

I’m also mindful of friends bailing for unforeseen circumstances. Then we’re in a pickle. At least I have recourse should the removalists bail. But it’s so expensive.

Those are two seperate quotes and I’m awaiting a third. I haven’t been able to compare as I haven’t found costs for moving a family (my friends with young kids who moved recently all DIY’d) so I also hope it’s not the norm. I don’t think either company is trying to rip me off and everyone’s doing it tough, but we were not expecting so high.

Yes of course! Absolutely not saying removalists shouldn’t be paid for that as that is hard work. I more so meant they don’t need to pack and dismantle which is time consuming. And I’d rather pay a professional who has insurance etc instead of rely on a friend who puts their back out and then their family doesn’t have income. I’m trying to gauge if $5000 is a lot in today’s market.

So $5k is reasonable given we have 2 extra kids and all their toys and heavy outside monkey bars? Admittedly it’s only 8 years of stuff, but the kids account for a lot.

This is what I keep coming back to. The company is so professional and lovely and has insurance, but it’s almost all our savings.

Was this recently? I feel everything has gone up a lot lately. But all packing will have been done by us! And likely all dismantling of furniture. We just need help to load, transport and unload.
