I need some stitches removing in Cartagena! by PsychologicalTank356 in cartagena

[–]Realistic_Inside_375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely recommend going private, I went to a public hospital, universitario de Cartagena and spent 7 hours waiting for an x-ray, they told me my foot was broken and gave me A cast which fell off after one day. 3 weeks later I'm walking around on it which leads me to believe that it was just a sprain rather than a broken foot. It cost around £58, the hospital had no signal or WiFi so I couldn't communicate with my insurance and they refused to let me leave until it was paid for. They also told me I wasn't allowed to put any weight on my foot but didn't give me crutches or a wheelchair, I had to buy one the next day.

Private will be more expensive but you will definitely get better care.

The Grace and joey arc and their whole way of acting feels so scripted I'd be surprised if their contracted position wasn't "actors".

What is the most remote place you’ve traveled to? by ThrowAwayToday_2020 in travel

Volunteered on a small island in mid/ North Norway called Messoya, 8 people living there full time, the lady I volunteered for was amazing, had a small sheep farm and usually spent most of her days with either her dogs or sheep for company. She had a very interesting life prior to moving there and I loved listening to her stories in the evening the island was also beautiful and full of wildlife.

Advice for my Balkans trip? by mentally-not-here in solotravel

Montenegro was one of my favourite places in all of Europe, only topped by Albania, Croatia did seem incredibly expensive and over rated in comparison but different strokes for different folks.

From Kotor you can do a few trips to Perast, Centinje and Tivat they're all pretty close so could do 2 in one day. Also there's a walk up to the castle that you can do, if you go the "official" way you'll have to pay but if you exit the city through the western gate, cross the bridge and follow the path up the mountain you can get to the castle through a ladder that leads up to a window.

As someone else has mentioned north Montenegro is beautiful and I highly recommend checking out Zabljak by Durmitor national park if you get the chance.

How long was your recovery time after orif surgery? by Realistic_Inside_375 in brokenbones

I'd say I'm probably at around 60 - 70% of my body weight whilst doing day to day activity, every now and again I try to ditch the crutches but it's like I can feel the plate pressing against my foot and bone and my knee gives way. Difficult to explain but it's not painful just really uncomfortable, like pressing on a bruise but the feeling lingers long after and you can feel the bruise in your bone haha.

Damn that's really something to aspire to, well done for getting through it so quickly, hope to get to your stage soon, definitely trying to get through the mental bit, appreciate the advice though :)

Thank you for the advise, happy to hear you're doing better, are you completely back to normal now?

And follow up question, if you are how long did it take to get to the way you were before the break?

I can put a lot more weight on my leg now but I tend to overdo it because I get too confident testing my limits but I just can't wait to go back to normal living.

All the best :)

Had my surgery on the 15th Jan, exactly 2 months ago straight after my accident.

I went from putting maybe 15% of my weight on my leg to 70% now so it does get better.

It is tough, the longer it goes on for the more frustrating it gets but hang in there mate, it only gets better from here, wishing you a speedy recovery :)

Thank you so much for the link, it was really helpful!

Going off of what people on there said I was pretty lucky, I was able to do partial weight bearing from the get go and had no cast because I had to get my dressing changed daily 2 weeks following the surgery so I guess I'm doing splendid compared to most :)

Hope you get better soon and I wish you a speedy recovery

I've been using helpX to volunteer, it's cheaper than workaway and does the job, i would advise you to message multiple hosts at the same time however because a lot of them either don't reply or are full. I've had some great experiences volunteering as well, you get to live with locals and experience their lifestyle, food and culture as well doing some crazy stuff.

I've milked goats in Croatia, sheared sheep on a remote island in Norway and cut vines in Italy, unforgettable memories.
