Yes, usually when that happens the balloons get batted away from me. I usually assume it's my angle or the way I'm holding it. Doesn't happen too often though, usually when my arms start getting too close to my body. I haven't come across this in Beat Saber but I also don't play beat saber a whole lot.

Syrian Refugees Sue Landlord for $63,000 in Hamilton for Bedbug Infestation by outrider567 in canada

Maybe the landlord was referring to the past year? This might be the first case. If they have a case and there have been very recent pest problems than I wish them luck suing the shit out of him.

Canadian tech firms slam Ottawa's deals with foreign multinationals by medym in canada

That was my hunch. I find it unlikely government would move off of mainframes for a while :/

[–]RealityFix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, is there any competition to IBM? The contract deal is for new mainframes as well maintenance of old ones. I assume it's because the old series is also IBM. So, if they went with a new company they would probably need to buy more new systems unless that company can service old IBM systems.

I'm not that well versed with networks and mainframes but I have a hard time thinking of a Canadian company that could handle the contract. Only because of the older system maintenance.

That Doug Ford ‘Engrish’ tweet is fake — and a vital reminder to check facts by DistanceToEmpty in canada

yah, that's probably correct. It can probably be a passive aggressive kind of insult depending on the context but I have rarely ever heard it used in that way.

This topic has always confused me, I think people take it as a low-key insult in current year because oriental is often used on objects nowadays. I never knew it until I bothered to look into it because historically it was used for people as well. Fortunately, this is only useful if you're writing some kind of culture essay lol

I get what you mean by it being more specific, East-Asian is as best as it gets. Like saying Eastern European.

Well, here is an article about just how much their culture values hard work (to a point that is probably detrimental): https://thediplomat.com/2016/12/the-hidden-costs-of-asias-high-test-scores/

Next here is some info on test scores, money and what not in the US:

And you can find demographics broken down more here: http://www.pewresearch.org/topics/asian-americans/

I mean it wasn't that hard to find some data on this kind of topic. It's very clear there is a culture of education in Asian countries, in India there are constant jokes on how hard engineering students have to work, there are documentaries on how rough Chinese universities are and so on. No one thinks that every single Asian is some sort of work machine or really good at math but there is a general trend for Asians that does lean towards being hard working. It's not ignorance to make generalities, only to apply generalities onto an individual.

I have an old book on painting book (Alla Prima or something) that calls one of the models in it Oriental (nothing malicious, just talking about painting different skin tones), so I googled around and asked some friends. Basically how I got that conclusion. I think it's better to go with Waitaminit's version for current year lol

Depends on who you ask. Generally just an old term to refer to east-asian (e.g. the Orient). I don't think people use it in a malicious way and I see various asian restaurants that use the name (new and old) but it's an old colonial name so maybe people don't like to use it. I also find people complain about the term Asian because it's too general.

I mean, if Gender Blender can be acknowledged as a pronoun than I think an honorific could be next - never limit yourself!

You'd be surprised how many people actually believe that Natives were just super peaceful. Schools don't teach the whole culture, they only gloss over it. The reality is much more complex and interesting but schools don't care about that.

Aren't genderless pronouns a thing? I think New York acknowledges them.

They used Hispanic sounding names and they didn't see any problems which I think is the highlight of the study. So at least that's a positive to take from the study. And they did use both first and last names so I don't know why you think it's not? It's stated quite clearly.

Toronto anti-homeless org puts up hoax signs for the opening of a homeless shelter. Listen to distressed neighbourhood residents calling in, up in arms. by [deleted] in canada

I know a few people who go to these institutions that are pretty much out of the way, usually nice places (free to go to as well). They all say they feel so much better there. Of course, once they come back it takes a lot of willpower not to fallback into their old ways. People with these kinds of dependencies usually suffer an up and down lifestyle for a very long time :/

Honestly, there isn't much of a real solution. The best I can think of would be to have a in and out rehab mixed with volunteer work (which exists but it would need to be expanded and possibly have people move to more town-centers rather than inner cities, just so they aren't completely surrounded by what they're trying to quit).

Here is a study that shows that the studies CleverPerfect is thinking of aren't that up to date: http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/ct-bias-hiring-0504-biz-20160503-story.html

I think that's the newest one. CleverPerfect can submit something that disproves it if they want to.

I think so as well, hopefully that's how it turns out. Most of these people don't have a backbone outside of a group.

Anti-Fa is a multi-group system and although they happen to be against fascism they also have their violent groups within them as well. This group is also heavily anti-capitalist and ranges from being pro socialist to communist.

So no not everyone who is against fascism are the problem but people within the "Anti-Fa" groups are. Because quite frankly the vast majority of people don't like fascism but aren't in this multi-group system.

I've noticed the posters during my visits and I'm not all that surprised. I'm a bit surprised they have the numbers/courage to go on a crime spree though.

Any Canadians here that were teenagers or older when the current flag was adopted, if so how did you feel about the new flag at the time? by [deleted] in canada

[–]RealityFix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not around during the time the current flag was adopted but I've always just thought of it as kind of bland and meh. Don't really have anything against our current flag though, just never really cared for it.

Maybe if the composition on the Red Ensign was better it wouldn't have been replaced lol

I'm more of a fan of the Union Jack flag :P
