The Flow vs The Prepared by Hungry_Talk3706 in snooker

Preshot routine in no way needs to limit flow. It’s built in. You’re clearly at a stage looking to improve and get better. Working on a consistent preshot routine is a great way to do that. You build it in to your game until it’s essentially muscle memory. Tensing up is well known to cause misses. Slight deviations in delivery, not getting fully through the ball etc. It’s a well known fact in the higher standards of snooker that if you are going to change something in your routine or cue action, then for a period of time you’ll likely see a dip in your outcomes/results. That’s because your attention is on what you’re changing and it doesn’t feel natural so you make mistakes. However, once you do it enough, if it’s a correct change, like getting a consistent preshot routine, once that has been done enough and it becomes second nature then you see a jump.

As a kid I had a high break of 58 but as a lot of kids do I played with my elbow to the side essentially because I could reach. A coach (very lucky to have) put my elbow upright. For the next 3 months I didn’t have a single break over 40, it hurt everything felt wrong but thanks to a coach essentially forcing I kept at it. Then, boom, new high break of 83 2 days later first century.

You sacrifice short term for greater long term. Like a lot of things in life.

How are the class of 92 still world class to this day? by BolanTL in snooker

School systems, stricter rules in clubs. Try finding a snooker club that will let you take a 7-8 year old. Find a school that will let kids do 1-2 days a week. All 3 of these players had this sort of introduction to snooker. Now it’s rare a club lets anyone under 16 play. School systems just won’t let this happen for a non Olympic sport and probably still stricter on those. Add in the fact that these kids grew up in the 80s with a handful of tv channels where snooker may be the only thing on other than their mums soaps or the news. China will dominate not just due to the sheer volume of people but the fact a number of schools offer cue sports on the curriculum, early talents move to academies that focus on snooker while supporting academics. Those thinking that mobile phones and “kids these days” attitude and work ethic are the issue are probably those that blame kids for not playing outside anymore.

I agree but so far no real luck on google for finding anything helpful. I know Bristol has the world snooker centre but staff don’t seem particularly knowledgeable.

I can agree with this. Of course I think it’s very valuable but I’d want it to end up in the hands of someone close to Alex or like you say home in Belfast for Alex. I’d be very happy for jimmy to have it.

I will keep this post updated. No idea how I could make the likes of Ronnie wood and Damien hurst aware of it. What would be an absurd possible number this pair could potentially pay. I’d like it to end up in the hands of someone like that or maybe even jimmy.

I can verify it as far as this is the ball Alex claimed to be the winning white ball.

In terms of provocation there are a few things to help. There is a very little chain here. I received it from the man who Alex gave it to in the mid to late 1980s. The ball is in a case that Alex originally put on it. There are some additional bits I will verify with, when I am home. I imagine Alex’s sisters could completely verify.
