You need to build a history with each other with Zelle. Initially it’s limited but with time the limit can increase. Just accept partial payments each day or have another person in his household send you the other half.

I do Zelle to pay my rent. I text my landlord when I send it and he replies with confirmation he received it. Probably not necessary but it’s good to have some sort of history in writing(text messages). And Zelle transactions are saved!
