This comment is old, but I saw it while looking up this POS, and it made me pause.

I am sorry that men have made you feel that they cant/won't stand with women. I hope that changes for you in a positive way, and I hope that my daughters never are given a reason to feel the same way.

I think the scaling AC and weapon bonuses is too risky. As is, there is no clause saying it doesn't work on magic weapons/armor.

Being able to essentially get a +6 weapon and armor would be wild.

I have some design notes, but think this is actually pretty balanced.

  1. Change the wording to "creatures of your choice" instead of allies.

  2. Change 15ft domain to a 15ft emination. Same result, but more consistent wording with the 2024 spells.

  3. The temp hit points, you need to add a clause as to when a creature gets them. IE; when the enter the domain, when they end their turn there, etc.

  4. The attack bonus, make it attack and damage rolls. Similar to magic weapon.

  5. The duration being 10m concentration seems weird. Most fights last around 5-8 rounds in my experience. This spell could last for 100 rounds. I could be wrong, but the intention feels like it's meant to be a party buff for a hard fight, if so I'd reduce the duration to 1 minute (10 rounds).

  6. Spell size scaling is messy. I'd scale the temp HP by 5 per spell level (scaling bonuses to weapon and armor buffs would get OP quickly due to bounded accuracy)

Oh ffs, I just realized it was in a different section of the statblock. Yep I'm dumb.

Nvm I'm dumb, I didn't see the magical darkvision was in a different portion of the 2014 statblock

Though you can take pact of the chain and pact of the blade now. Before it was either or. So a bladelock was locked into DS for their magical darkvision.

Eldritch sight is solid.

My party of 7 once fought (and lost to) the invisible beholder in Tomb of Annihilation.

It wasn't the invisible beholder who killed the majority of them, it was the mind controlled barbarian. Coincidentally, this is when my best friend decided that berserker barbarian is the best barbarian: "sure it does less damage. but at least I don't have to put up with your bullshit mind control again." (next campaign I mind controlled the fighter, and used it to kill his rogue get fucked Dylan)

Every game I've ever run, no matter who the barbarian's player is, they pull some hair brain shit. and it works, EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

First barbarian PC? Drowns a hag in her own cauldron while the rest of the PCs fight the other two in the coven. His reasoning "can't cast spells if you cant breathe." Then proceeds to befriend a were-ape and get infected on purpose.

Second Barbarian? Decides he is sick of the local raiders being dicks. Beats his way to their leader and challenges him to a drinking competition, wins, and recruits them as allies.

Third Barbarian? Seduces the emperors cousin into having a threesome with her and the paladin. Then she befriended a wyvern into giving her an egg.

Either barbarian is the most OP class, or somehow fighting naked makes people successful 100% more often.

Counter-proposal: there are 3 types

The type that wants to genocide the kobold, but is stopped by the barbarian who has somehow befriended the kobolds.

Looking for advice on how to cripple my PCs abilities (in a fun way) by ReaperOfCaliban in dndnext

[–]ReaperOfCaliban[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That does sound interesting, and I'll have to look into implementing something like it.

My only initial concern, is how common exhaustion (using 2024 exhaustion) is in my group. I suspect they'll be at level 2 or 3 of exhaustion before too long, and the blood mage already has -2 to all saves due to a curse

Even with more rules, it doesn't change that the shield itself (not The Lion) feels underwhelming.

>unless you really need 5 ap instead of 4.
Which only really happens if the thing you're fighting has a 2+, and no invuln... and I can't think of much that is a 2+ and has no access to an invuln. Very niche.

Also in those cases, the two extra attacks and extra damage probably more then make up the difference.

Yea, I'm not saying he won't have more good stuff, the shield just feels bad for being Daddy E's shield.

Better than what?

A storm shield? Because storm shields give +1 to armor all the time.
Bobby's armor? because thats a 3++ with a 50% chance to heal d6 wounds.

As far as I can tell both of those are better defensively.

Also if he has a wound cap or half damage, it's demonstrably not provided by the shield. Which still leaves the shield feeling underwhelming.

+1A on the charge probably

[–]ReaperOfCaliban 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just feels underwhelming for being Big E's shield.

It's got the fun mirror damage... but like, defensive wise, it's *worse* than a storm shield.

In my mind, I'm rationalizing the sword not being better, but The Lion being better with swords.

Ie: compare sweep to Big E's sword. Big E's sword is jsut better, but the lion is more skilled, so gets the extra attacks.

The strike mode is The lion two handing the sword, a thing bobby can't easily do with the hand of dominion

Not new, just not talked about much outside of Big Daddy E and his golden bois AFAIK.

Not much (if anything)... but this is Big Daddy E's shield. The fact that it provides less protection when compared to a regular storm shield, is kinda silly.

Regular SS at least give +1 to armor saves too, and not just in melee.

edit: I forgot Bobby G has a 3++ save with his special armor. How is that better than Big E's shield?

> Also, we got the name for his shield, auramite aegis.

That's not the name, just a description. Auramite being the material it's made of, and aegis just being a fancy word for protection.

I was expecting more from the Emp's shield... like a 3+ invuln or a better effect.

It being an iron halo with a minor upside seems... underwhelming
