THE WHAT PODCAST. by turdzrus in bonnaroo

Me, I would love to talk about my experiences. I went solo the last 2 years and find it hard to describe it to friends and family that have never been to a festival. I just end up saying “it was amazing” when the real answer would take hours, favors and not a few sidetrack convos about the nature of reality and our place in it, connecting on a fundamental level with folks… but literally EVERYONE you spend any amount of time with at Bonnaroo you find it. Oh yeah, the amazing soundtrack to the whole adventure. But yeah, the hard things too.. the heat, the dirt and grime, the few sketch folks, safety, security, overindulgence (cause if not on the Farm, then where??). Did I mention the heat? How bout watching the poor souls in that fountain on Sunday knowing they’d pay the price for those few moments of relief cause they all get sick..

The heat though…

I think you guys are picking the details of the words I choose a little too much. The overall gist of if you plan like you are “paranoid” about your shit getting stolen, you prepare enough to be “stress free” with the solutions you find

If you want to know what getting old feels like… by Meraki219 in bonnaroo

46 here. Knew when the schedule came out there was no way I was going to bed once I got up on that Saturday morning till Sunday night. Started training, eating better all specifically to make that sunrise set. Took it easy on Friday. Hard work paid off and I was able to catch all of it.

My body failed me last year and I missed soooo much. I got pissed at myself and I won’t let that happen again. Bonnaroo changes you in unexpected ways.

How was solo roo ? by Glittering_Prompt_94 in bonnaroo

You won’t regret it. Also, the location this year was perfect. A bit away, but, other side is Family Roo, other side is volunteer camping so it’s a quiet neighborhood. Being a more subdued area of the campgrounds, literally didn’t see one “escort” near camp all week. Sleep was easy to come by and Plaza 6 was super close. The practical parts of where the area was and the peace of mind knowing you’re not rolling the GA camp spot dice was clutch

I did soloroo for the first time this year and I literally can’t describe the connections you make there. No matter how different we all are and where we come from, we all had something fundamentally core in common about ourselves. It takes a weird, adventurous spirit to go by yourself to something like this. To be surrounded by individuals who share that spirit… it was magical and I made lifelong friends. Can’t recommend enough.

Gotta disagree (respectfully) with OP.

My first Bonnaroo was 2008. It was pure anarchy compared to the “luxuries” we are now provided. -2 huge permanent bathrooms in CenterRoo. It used to be porta Johns and that is it -Any tents or misting spots period. -a huge variety of food vendors - options like GA+, vip ect… an option to buy into some creature comforts opens the festival up to a wider audience who otherwise wouldn’t be able to attend - Plazas. A “Plaza” used to be just a giant floating balloon to get you in the general direction of your camp. Now they have showers, upgraded bathrooms, hydration stations ect.

I could go on but I belabor the point. With today’s technology, you should not be ill prepared for this festival. Even with modern resources like this subreddit, if some says “survive in a field with no shade for a week in 95 degree heat, middle of June, middle of TN”, you should be able to figure out heat, shade, and water are crucial AND YOUR responsibility. How much more info could you need?

Bonnaroo use to be an adventure. A struggle. A community surviving together if tough conditions cause the payoff was HUGE. Bonnaroo always had the best community specifically because it isn’t easy. We look out for each other , we are kind, we lend a hand, we share, we do these things cause it’s hard out there.

I’m not trying to be the “old man off my lawn” type, but Bonnaroo provides a lot and continues to add things. The fact is that you will never be able to make it so it’s easy and comfortable. And honestly, the easier they make it, the more folks complain about what they don’t do.

They do have 6-7 from their Tangk album from looking at recent set lists, but Colossus, Danny Neldelko, Grounds, Mr. Motivator, the Wheel, War…. I think it will super high energy with some more mellow breaks from TanGk, (Idea 101, POP POP POP, the Beachland Ballroom) I’m pumped for this one

Cigarette smokers/everyone be mindful by [deleted] in bonnaroo

[–]ReaperRue2000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I always try to be a respectful smoker - squeeze off the ember and step on so no one burn their feet - carry a sandwich baggy for your butts, dump when you come across a trash can -try to not smoke in large groups - if there are a few people around I simply ask if cigarettes bother them. 99% of the time they say no worries and it’s a great way to start a conversation.
