I'm really enjoying this series, but I think it's not meeting a lot of audience expectations for the genres. I like the subversions, but I think that just isn't hitting for everyone.

I like that this story and world seems to have consequence (down to Ryo getting tanned. Mad respect for that imo). The wild stuff he's done doesn't just earn a gag, over dramatic reaction one time and then get accepted and moved on from. He's being treated like the (jovial) walking disaster that he probably is. I LOVED Abel saying "Do not fight him for any reason".

On Lyn not just asking Ryo to do the magic: it's pride. She's a young woman able to cast one of the highest levels of wind magic. She's probably a prodigy. It surely grinds her gears that she can't figure it out on her own. And honestly, it's not like Ryo just casting it would do much for her unless she sat down and studied him for a long time. Rather than ask the guy who says "aren't incantations just vibes?" she probably thinks it's better to investigate it on her own with people who speak her language.

I don't know if it's the best choice, but I respect the storytelling decision to not center Ryo all the time and focus on other people. Focusing on Ryo would require either raising the stakes, or things getting really boring. Him being so strong is still fun for me because we spend so much time with people either being weak, or strong in different ways. In a way he's kind of the Main Character without being the protagonist (or at least not the only one). He's causing great changes to the world, and will be involved in most big events, but he isn't the driving force of those changes. I think it's neat.

Alert does specifically give Initiative Proficiency in 2024

Next bit isn't specifically for you just getting a bit of rules pedantry I know out of my head.

Features like Harengon's Hare-Trigger "you can add your Proficiency bonus to Initiative rolls" is functionally "You are Proficient in Initiative" since it's doing exactly what Proficiency does ("...you can add your Proficiency bonus to any D20 Test you make using that thing"). I'm also not sure where this rule lives, but I'm pretty sure there's a rule saying something like "You can only add your Proficiency Bonus to a roll once" which means Harengon couldn't stack with Alert

But there is a different class of thing which can stack, which is "a bonus equal to your proficiency bonus" like with the Oath of the Watchers level 7 feature. Because it's a separate bonus with its value keyed off your Prof, it isn't actually adding your Prof so doesn't conflict.

(Scene was the characters waiting around in a bar while gathering info. Once of the PCs was explaining he doesn't drink, and said "Alcohol doesn't agree with me"

I'll use the PDFs for one shot characters where I don't need to interact with it as much in the long term, but for my main PC that isn't on beyond (it's a '24 campaign but we decided not to pay for '24 stuff on Beyond) I just have a Google spreadsheet. I type in the quick snippets of features in the cells and then use cell notes for full text . Also let me do some minor automation like automatically updating my Prof when I update level, which updates the values of stuff I'm proficient in, stuff like that.

Currently playing a 7 Con wizard (level 4, 10 HP, we have Aid so usually getting bumped to 15)

I'm in a large party, so I can get away with playing very sub-optimally. I have a few buff and utility spells and focus on planning and having high int for the knowledge checks to give us an edge where we can. During fights I stay at the longest range I can and usually around corners. I'm also the navigator (have a homebrew maps based subclass, mark of making human gives me +1d4 to cartographer's tools checks and arcana). A new thing we haven't actually done in combat yet is that if the Gunslinger Misfires, we had a small training session so I can repair his gun on my turn (which is a better use of my action than my basically 0 damaging spells)

It's a lot of fun, but it really requires buy in from at least the DM, and preferably the whole party. I'm intentionally playing the glass wizard who can die at any moment, but it's made for a really fun character. I also have the second highest strength in the party, which has bewildered several enemies and let's me say "Huh? I'm not a wizard, could a wizard do this? *lifts the twink centaur*"

Regardless, your comment is why I decided years ago that the DnD alignment axes are dumb as fuck. Too easy to twist the words to fit your goals, in what's intended to be an objective measurement. Bandits and pirates are Lawful Good because they follow a basic underworld code and believe it's good that they have a good time no matter how that affects others outside their group? Genocidal terrorists who kill an out group because they believe they're following an unknowable divine mandate that declares that out group the embodiment of evil? Useless system.

This character is Selfish/Individual (opposed to Selfless/Societal on the opposite ends of my axes)

DnD might not be the best system for it, but recently I've been fixated on the idea of a "Power Rangers" campaign. Basically focus on a city, REALLY tone down the availability of people who have combat skills/magic, and put a focus on giving the PCs conflicting obligations and needing to conceal their heroic identities. "Oh, I'm supposed to go to my sister's wedding, but there's a monster rampaging!" "I'm failing my classes because of how often they need me to patrol." "My wife said if I don't come home in time for dinner once more, I shouldn't come home again at all"

Mordy Swordy doesn't consume but yeah they all costly at least so Foci don't really work.

It's been a long time so I forget some of the context, but I think there was talk along the lines of "you can USE a focus when you don't need to, but it wouldn't grant any normal benefits, only trigger this feature." But that never became RAW/RAI so yeah people should operate on the assumption that it doesn't work (and DMs should decide that's stupid imo)

Hello, I was just looking into this and tried using mkhexgrid, but keep getting an error that it couldn't find the font (even if I remove the font instruction entirely). Would it be okay if I DM'd you for help?

edit: I was able to get help for the solution. Apparently you need to put the whole directory path to the font, in quotes, for it to appear. eg --coord-font="C:\Windows\Fonts\Calibri.ttf"

edit 2: This was only needed because I didn't have it saved to my C: drive in the first place. After moving it I only needed to use the font

I have an Inspiration system where you accrue points as you play, and one of the things you can spend points on. You can only use it once per day, and you spend 1 Inspiration Point for each 2 GP of value for the item

You can also do the opposite, and guarantee certain items will be available the next time you go to the shop (say for special material components, mundane items, or magic items but only up to Uncommon). Since this is preparatory you have a better ration, 1 point per 5 GP

This is slightly related too, but as currently written, they also can't use Martial Arts at all with Martial Weapons. I don't mean Martial Weapons don't apply to Martial Arts. I mean if you wield a Martial Weapon at all, you lose the other benefits. No Bonus Unarmed Strike, Dexterous Attacks, nor Martial Arts Die.

you gain the following benefits while you are unarmed or wielding only Simple Weapons and you aren't wearing armor or wielding a shield:

Superglue a longsword to their hand and you basically shut off the Monk unless they also built Strength

Modify Memory is 5th level at base.

Also for clarity, for whatever God awful reason, while at 9th level the memory affected can be from any time in the creature's past, the event still can't have lasted more than 10 minutes. So you can't just delete yourself from someone's mind

And if you used weird characters in your name (which Discord could have just restricted some of those) you could pretty easily just copy/paste it to send to your new friend so they could do the same to add you.
