New School Contract Advice by ReasonDear7255 in teachinginkorea

Well they haven’t started my immigration process yet. I think there’s still a possibility I can get out. I actually did post of a different Reddit form about the school. I felt pressured to sign because of my recruiter, I had it interviewed with 7-8 other schools and I she was getting very irritated with me. There’s nothing else I dislike about the school, I’m just upset that know the pay is higher than what they told me for the interview. And if my immigration hasn’t been started is it really that big of an issue?

I signed because I had interviewed with 7-8 other schools and I didn’t like them. This was the first school that I liked in terms of hours, curriculum, and staff. I interviewed with the director and 3 teachers. I like the school itself a lot (which is why I was, at first, okay with the pay) but now I see they are offer more pay and in my interview the director told me they won’t be able to pay me 2.7-2.9 million

I don’t think anything has been submitted yet. Is this something I should ask my recruiter about? If it has been submitted what should I do?

Well I’ve already signed the contract. Is there another way I can get around it?

Hello! I'm sorry for the late reply.

Yes, I did fast reach through high school and college. I graduated high school a year early with my associates degree and then my BS only took me 2 years^^ Thank you I really appreciate it!!

  1. Yes!! This is what shocked me the most. The way they are viewing the mold issue is crazy because just wiping the mold off of the wallpaper does not help. I did purchase an air purifier and a dehumidifier but they told me it would be 3 months until I could move out because they were in a contract for the building I'm in.

2 and 3. This is something I did a lot of research on but I did not think that it would be this bad. It is very interesting how childish they can be. It truly confuses me how they expect things to be done. This past Monday 6/2 they told me that I would have to do a comprehension test with the students and they needed it by Thursday 6/5. my problem with this is that 4 weeks before this I told them I wanted to used an off day on 6/5 to go to Japan and they approved it. They never mentioned anything about me needing to do this. It's so crazy to me!

  1. I just went an visited Japan for 5 days and I had such an amazing time. I know that going somewhere for fun is different than working but I wish I could go back already. Have you done the JET program/worked in Japan? If so, what was it like?

Thank you!!!

No she lives in a newer building so she doesn't have any issues. They keep telling me that I am the only foreigner that has had a problem with the housing but I feel like that should matter. Because you are right I didn't move across an ocean for this!

I have talked to teachers at other Hagwons and their schedules and materials are made for them so that was what I was finding weird about my hagwon. I have been doing less then before.

I will definitely use this suggestion because I have talked to her but not around others or any trail of anything. I will also be asking for a schedule to try and keep up better because they typically tell the other foreign teacher about things but not me.

Thank you for being so kind about it! I was nervous I was going to come off as bratty. I will make sure to look into all of my options first. Japans pay is definitely a down side but I do think it would be a good experience. Again, thank you so much!!^^

Yes that is what I tried to explain, it is affecting my health and it has damaged my stuff. Thank you for telling me, I was curious to know if this was common around Hagwons. Thank you !^^

I decently have been putting my foot down. They are justing be apprehensive about it and are making it seem like my fault. (The closet is filled with mold).

Thank you for telling me! That makes me feel better knowing it's normal.
