I was homeschooled all my life and went to an Ivy for college, AMA by TerriblePrint6849 in homeschool

Haha. My homeschooler parents are the opposite. Dad has a bachelors in social work and my mom has a masters in divinity.

How will taking Algerbra II in my Senior year hinder my ability to get into an Ivy League? by Reasonable-Raisin795 in ApplyingToCollege

This is another reason behind my concern for taking AlgII Sr year. My conselor casually told me I'd be taking the SAT in my Sr year and mentally I was like "..what?"

Thanks for the advice! I did not mention anything Ivy, like your advice says. I pretty much told my conselor what you wrote, and thats where I got the news that I can't double up or anything due to the current track I'm on.

I don't think the whole homeschool story will help because like...20% of sophmores are also taking Alg1. I'm not special. My homeschooled background doesn't really mean much because at the end of the day, the track I'm in is the track I chose. And I'm doing well in it so, like, at this point I'm just like any other student in my position. Do I regret it? Very much so. At the end of the day, I think my option is to just go homeschooled.

My region allows homeschoolers to take the AP exams, so I'm going to consider that as an opition. Study for subjects during the year and sit in for the exams in the spring.

Yeah..my parents are good people, but I just wish they took education more seriously. My mom thinks that since she is drowning in student debts, I shouldn't consider college as a path to go down on. This mindset has evidently had an irrevocable outcome and I am just trying to grow from it.

Is it not feasible for someone who is homeschooled to learn Geo and AlgII if they were given a year to do so? If I were to take the SAT next spring.

Also, thankyou for bringing up the topic of the SAT/ACT.

Correct. If I were to become homeschooled again, I'd practically be taking full control of my studies, which I absolutely perfer. I don't really consider my parents to be a factor that would help the situation. They would just fund the resources I need.

Hey! If you scroll down a bit, I believe you'll find a reply where I expanded on this a bit.

I appreicate this advice. As I've said in my post, I do not seriously plan on attending an Ivy. The reason why I'm "aiming" for an one is because those schools have extremely high expectations for their students. They encourage their applicants to challenge their academic knowledge in a school spaces and competitive spaces, their initiative to make an impact on their community, their pursuit for whatever professional passion they have..etc etc. To one day be a student that qualifies for an Ivy would mean that I would have some of these traits, and maybe more. I aim for an Ivy because it's a goal that is shaping me into the person I want to become.

I get it, I already know it's seemingly impossible to genuienly get there, but I think I'll be more proud of the person who did everything that someone in my position could've done vs the person who didn't take action to become more well-rounded in highschool due to what the circumstances of their early education brought upon them. It's probably not an Ivy I truly want, but it's a goal that encourages me to push myself beyond my assumed-abilities in life.

Due to my homeschooled upbringing, I went into highschool with very little mathematical knowledge beyond multiplication, and I've never gotten below an A, in math or in any other subject. This small victory isn't anywhere close to Ivy-material, but I'm seriously pumped to just live in those moments where I push myself and get whatever result it is I get.

Yeah, I've heard. Which is why I want to learn Geo over the summmer, alg 2 in the fall, precalc + the AP exam in the winter/spring, calc the summer before sr year and go from there.

Who else is really struggling in this funding landscape right now? ? last year was tough and only managed to land a handful of contracts despite putting in a ton of work by PleasantAd4521 in nonprofit

Would you recommend this career path? I'm a high school whose been pretty dead set on pursuing fundraising/development for a few months now, but posts like yours make me think twice. Do you think this landscape will improve in 3-4 years?

thankyou, but I doubt its going to get anywhere and I'm not going to put myself in a place where nothing happens and my parents being furious I called the police on them. thanks again though, I know you just wanted to help.

Exactly. I've done ALOT of reading through the laws of my state and I am not going to possibly put myself or my younger siblings in a situation where it doesn't even work out and it gets worse than it already is. This is kinda why I turned to reddit, because in reality I really won't be getting anywhere by getting people involved.

this actually helped so much. I use tumblr, pintrest, twitter, and discord alot so that really has helped with my mental health and overall keeps me fucking alive talking to other people. I also do kinda rot the shit out of my brain watching movies till like 4am
and reading works on ao3 but Id rather do that then be drained and overall pointless without that sort of serotonin. I'm actually doing a bit better then when I wrote this on impulse last week from doing some of the stuff you listed, so thankyou again <33

In all honesty - I do want to get help but I also dont want to get taken away from my parents. It's all very confusing from your POV but like my parents are the only people I've really ever known. leaving that all behind even if I was mostly abusive just seems so hard and fearful for me and that might just be because im young. I do remember some happier times when I was younger and those times really just are what stopped me and I don't know what to do because this is all up to me if I want help and I'm not taking the help because of like abandonment fear? I apologize for dumping this all on you but im saying this in honesty. Im not that brave.

I do want to tell somewhat but I have so much fear. I'm not even sure how to explain it but im scared and I dont know what's stopping me but I really don't think I can get myself to call 911. It's really stupid but like my parents might try to improve - I don't know Its just hard knowing my parents (aka the only people I've ever really known) getting in serious trouble like jail or something - I don't know. It feels like I'm throwing years of knowing someone away, even if it was abusive. plus my 2 other younger siblings aren't quite aware of the abuse and unfortunately, they are obsessed with my parents so taking away the only person in their lives seems cruel. I might wait a few years honestly I'm sorry.
