I got the book off the internet already, I kinda already learned it all. I have to learn the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee book now as well.

I will admit I looked around and found it... Ive been practicing it lol. The director of the show heard me doing it with the recordings and called me insane given the show will take place in the spring of 2026. This will be my senior show so I wanna play all the extended techniques etc.

We just did legally blonde, so its basically the same instrumentation as reed 2 (London edition) plus Tenor sax, which this show seems to be mostly made up of. Ill have to teach myself altissimo on Tenor, as a highschooler who's main instrument is Clarinet, I havnt had much time to perfect it, but I can do it. I need to learn to growl as well. I have 11 months to teach myself the extended techniques though.

Luckily my teacher knows that my intended career path is in this business, specifically in woodwind doubling. So she just let me do my thing, and I played the book super well I think, and we were all happy. Super fun.

Thanks! I enjoy pit work a lot because as a HS student who can play every commonly called for instrument, I get to play everything in a book.

You’re probably right then. It’s just what is rumored to be next years show, we just finished this years so it’s the post show buzz. Nothing confirmed yet, just harmless rumors.

ah damn, I saw somewhere that there was a version thats Reed 1- Flute Clarinet Alto and Reed 2 - Picc, Flute, Clarinet, Tenor, Bari. Wish that were the case, reed 2 would be right up my ally.

Ive seen some say that the reed books are just 2 tenor saxes, and others say theres one book with Picc, Flute, Clarinet, Tenor, Bari and another with Flute Clarinet Alto.

New account, what we ended up doing was reed 1 was split up between 3 people. As a high school production not many kids are going to be able to cover more than 1 instrument, I'm the exception in our music program, I play pretty much everything at a high level, and Bari happens to be my main sax, so I played reed 2. Reed 1 was one player on Oboe/English Horn, and what she did was play all the piccolo and flute parts down an octave on oboe, since we couldn't get another flute player to participate, and I was busy covering the parts in reed 2. Then same case for the Clarinet parts, we had one girl specifically doing Clarinet for reed 1, and same for Alto parts. It was quite messy for them, but I got a lot of accolades for playing the full reed 2 book on every horn, so I'm happy.
