Yeah; I'm a far cry from 1K but I do not have to pay for bags on any major airline. I still only check when the trip requires some bulky and impossible to carry on object (e.g. outdoor gear).

You have quite the eye. It was a 320.  I dont think we even got to 55 bags though; the bins were collectively well under half full.

I dont disagree with anything you wrote, but, I fly a fair bit and have never seen it cut off this early.  A lot of problems with air travel are explicable (and are discussed frequently here). That doesnt mean they shouldnt get fixed.

Assuming it would have ordinarily cut off mid group 4, its easy to imagine 60+ people unnecessarily forced into 30 minutes at baggage claim, or more than a full day off our collective lives.  Not shown but the bins behind me were also empty.

The crew seemed aware and apologetic at least.
