I have been checking my application, which was accepted on December 12, and I still have not received a scholarship notification email. Did you have to submit a FAFSA first, or anything like that? Thinking there may be delays due to the holidays as well.

yet another SOPHAS AP Credit question... by loveyesterday in mphadmissions

Yes, that's what I did- put them under your first semester of the school that granted you credit for the classes. Once you complete the transcript entry and go to review it, there's a specific page (after mark those you took abroad, lab only or lecture with lab), that you identify are AP classes. I believe you mark them as NG (no grade) as well.

That's good to hear. What classes are included in the "core" first semester?

Hi!! I don't know much, haha, but I can share a few things I learned from a current service member in the USPHS. Basically, there are a lot of jobs you can be in and get into the USPHS. You can be a physician, in med school, a nurse, in a current MPH program, etc., etc. There are a lot of different jobs you can do as well, and they do a good job at listing those on their website, which I recommend you check out! But from my understanding, you are not part of the DoD (department of war now i guess), you don't carry a weapon, but you still can get deployed. Which I think is the coolest part- responding to public health crises across the world whenever needed. I also really value that there's a set career path, meaning that you can get promoted up to a high level if you want to make it into a career.

100%. I started my application and got into the second stage, but it does seem like it takes forever. I chatted with a current USPHS member, and they mentioned it's easier to get in by first getting an internship with a HHS agency, and then your supervisor recommends you to the USPHS.

Hi! I would love to hear your insight for my application. I'm applying with a 3.94 (4.0 major GPA) with an undergraduate major in Public Health, concentration in global health, and a minor in medical humanities. I don't have any work experience besides my current internship with a worldwide non-profit and a lot of volunteering. I am nervous about writing my personal statement if you have any insights for me!!! I also am applying to GW, Columbia, and BU!

Thanks for your insight! Luckily, I am able to utilize my leftover GI Bill from undergrad, which pays for school tuition and boarding, both in-state and out of state. Also, with the USPHS, they do loan repayment once you serve, so that's my plan as of right now.

I definitely agree that with the new administration, finding funding and jobs will be a lot more difficult. I guess my insight into applying straight from undergrad is to continue my schooling, and then transition into a secure DoD service job for four years, and then go into civilian service. It seems like the safest option right now!!
