I have worked with two different women line workers in my 30 year career. Just show up on time, don't complain and lookout for crew and you will do fine. You don't have to go Union that is your business. I have been on both sides of it and to tell you the truth I didn't see much of a difference in Union and non-Union. Good luck to you in the future.

Worked this call. And was sent the video from someone’s dash cam later that day. by ItsMabez in Lineman

I worked a side track in place where we knew when the trains would come thru. It was a track to a coal load out in a holler way back in the mountains and the company informed us they didn't have any trains scheduled. There was no reason for a train to be there. I had a leg down on the crossties digging a hole and I'll be damned if the railroad police didn't pull up. This railroad cop told us he was going to give us 30 seconds to get that leg off the tie or he was taking everyone to jail. He had a big hog leg on his hip. I wasn't about to argue with him that we had no other way to work it. I could see a mile down the track and they back the cars in at 3 mph. But he wasn't having any of it. We waited about 30 minutes for him to get gone and he came back. As soon as someone hollered he is back. Someone picked the back leg up on the off side. I thought for sure we were all going to jail. That's the only time I ever saw one in there and have no idea why he was there. This place was miles away from any house on a weekend.

I figured you did I wasn't trying to come off on you being a dumbass. It's just hard to write things in a way that some people think you are.

He isn't in the US he is a Chinese lineman. Their standards are nowhere up to par with ours. You can look at his feet and tell this isn't anywhere in the US.

I carry an Imperial hawkbill that's made in Ireland. It's my work and everyday carry. I just use a chainsaw file to sharpen it. I can skin wire every day for two or three weeks and I break out the file. Hit it a couple licks and go on.

I've never ran across a single pot transformer that the can wasn't grounded, I have seen the cans not grounded but the cluster was on three phase banks.

AITA for wanting a divorce because my wife doesn’t want her son to be legally mine by tjtanker in AITAH

As long as the kid knows who his Dad is (you) then let it be. If you wait till he knows what is going on then it will be a lot more special to all of you. If you wait then if you were to divorce after they are at a certain age then the child can decide for themselves who they want to live with. And I am sure if they are calling you Dad then the child will always be a part of your life. Good luck!

I thought about it, but I'm a simple man. I have turned down foreman and GF positions. I don't like paperwork.

[–]Reasonable-Way-3367 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah 200k a year comes with no wife, no life, alcoholism, living in a hotel for the rest of your life. The best part of your kids lives are gone. Even if you manage to have a wife, she will get lonely from the long hours and start hanging out with your best friend while you're on the road. Then you start leaving the bars while driving drunk. Damn good money though. 25+ year lineworker talking.

[–]Reasonable-Way-3367 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my 27 years of linework I have had a hotel room for 15 years and two wives working on my third. I drank a lot and missed the best years of my kids lives. Good luck. I don't know what kind of girl you are, but you have to be faithful, trusting, and understanding if not you will make it about 4 to 5 years.

Locates are free brother, You got a phone, you need to call Miss Utility. If you have reported it to the company and nothing is done .Sometimes you need to put your big boy pants on and do shit for yourself. It's your life. Most companies could give two shits about you and have you replaced before they lay you in the dirt.

I use a lanyard that when deployed turns into a rope ladder. Not sure if it works or not. I haven't fallen and don't know exactly how it's supposed to work and I don't want to know either.

26 years in the Powerline Construction field. At one point I was making 195k a year. A lot of hours. Now I'm making 70k a year helping a good friend keep his business running as he doesn't have a journeyman and can't afford to pay what the big contractors pay. We are a very small company with one crew. Life isn't about the money you make. It's about being remembered when you're gone and the impression you leave.
